2005 Mustang not "overweight"
2005 Mustang not "overweight"
According to the latest issue of Car and Driver, weight is roughly 3300-3500 LBs depending on the model - not the 3800lb porker alluded to earlier. That's not so bad compared to the 4 cylinder Solstice, which appears to be rolling in at ~3200 lbs (also from the same issue).
Other tidbits:
Base price estimated at $18,000.
300 HP GT estimated at $25,000, but still keeps the live axle.

Based on the Motor Trend (I think that was the mag) article and what 2003 GT's currently weigh, looks to me like their going to gain 50-100 lbs. While not a lot, I'd prefer to see it get that much lighter vice heavier.

If it comes in under 3000 I’ll be very happy. I can’t remember being this excited about a new car since I heard the Camaro was coming back.

Seriously I dunno....
In its current form it strikes me more as a chick/yuppy car. Hell even most S2000's I see are drove by women. If the embargoed pics are of the production car (which will be on GMI today or tommorow..) it has an awesome interior. Makes you wonder where those guys were when they were doing the G6 interior.
In all reality though...
I just wonder...they price this to be an entry level car.....yet I see it as more a third car for a mid to upper class family who wants something cool...but can afford no better.
It will interesting to see who really buys this....

We have a very unique way of putting things, don't we.

From all reports the 07 Camaro will get only a IRS setup.
This is good, but I believe that GM should offer a live axle for the drag racing crowd.
Camaro's have always been drag raced.

I would think that using 2 different rear ends would not be cost effective for engineering and production. If they were to offer a solid axle setup, I am thinking they would have to produce a new rear differential since the 10 bolt will just not cut it.
