Anyone seen a newer Lightning x-cross?

How did it do?

I bought a 2003 a few weeks back and it feels better than my stock 96 Z28 did, but of course I may have just forgotten how it felt because it was stock a long time ago.

Just curious.

I have, they actually arent too bad. no where NEAR a stock Z28 tho!

3 weeks ago, I attended an HPDE at Motorsport Ranch.

There was a Lightning running down GTs. It was an awesome site!

I was reading like the do .87 skidpad and 60-0 in 119'...just curious how that relates to something like x-crossing.

I run against a whole group of them in ESP, and they do surprisingly well. There's a Roush suspension kit that lowers them to a reaspnable height (not useless speedbump scraping cruiser height, just reasonable).

They can also handle HUGE rubber (though selection is limited) and have a mountain of torque.

One of the guys (with illegal-in-ESP brake upgrades, but hey, it's a truck :) ) has run at the Putnam and Mid Ohio road courses and shocked some people. He did have to upgrade the brakes after totally destroying them on his first road course adventure.

I can still beat them in autocross, but they make me work for it :)

I got ran down by one at Road America :( Don't know what he had done to it, but he was a better driver and had a faster vehicle down the straights.

I've actually autoxed one.... on Kumho Ecsta V700's too. :)

Pretty damn good for a truck, not going to beat a car that's well driven. Just too tall and too heavy, also a lack of traction was noted. Just no weight in the tail and a lot of right now torque.

Yeah, the Roush kits help a lot, but there's still too much ballast on the front end. Still, with a good driver they are surprising.

Sam, do you remember what size V700's you were on? The local guys had to go to Goodyear race tires to find anything big enough for the stock rims.

The stock rims aren't any wider than what I use.....????? Shouldn't be a problem finding a tire.

Um, 285/30-18.......

I served as an instructor this past May at the Hyper-Fest at Beaver Run. One of my Hyper-Drive students had a Lightening. It was a pretty quick vehicle and the student had quite a bit of trouble not getting significant wheelspin on corner exists in 3rd gear (he was on the stock tires). It felt like it handled reasonable well, but sitting up that high at speed was a little unnerving for me. Overall it felt pretty competent and in the right hands on the track could probably give an LS1 a very hard time on the track.

Hmmm, I think the local guys are on 20" rims or thereabout. I know they're original equipment, so there must be some optional sizes.
