Best finish to have powder coated over...
I'm going to purchase a set of 18 inch Z06 wheels but I want the center to be powder coated black or gray, and the lip to be chrome. Can chrome be powder coated over or would I be better off with a polished wheel then having it powder coated?
i have never seen anyone powdercoat chrome, but i would imagine it is possible. I believe you could powdercoat anything, as long as it could hold the charge to pick up the powder. But i have seen polished wheels get powdercoated before.
Go with polished not chrome. You will be lucky if you can even find a place that will do what you are talking about.
An alternative would be to just have the spokes painted gunmetal and then clearcoated (professionally). Then you just keep the lip of the wheels polished yourself.

If you were going to just paint them and clearcoat them, there are z06 wheels on ebay that are already done like this. Black/clearcoated centers with a polished lip.

well, I'd say you're probably going to want to go with the polished version.
They'll mask the lip, then beadblast the rest of the rim, then powdercoat it, loaving the mask on. then just remove the mask and you're all set.
