Here's something I put together, About $200 and some time and I mounted a 10.4" Screen where the radio was and moved the radio where to HVAC controls used to be.

I know, you're wondering, "What about your Heat and AC?" Well, I removed the AC a while ago, and as for heat, I don't drive it in the winter anyhow :)

Oh yeah, Copy and Paste Links.
The pics are the best, but what do you expect with a picture phone :D

Opinions are welcome, none will alter my decision...which was already made. I plan on using for DVDs, Xbox and Tuning.

I'll eventually get rid of it, like I do everything. It was a lets-see-if-I-can-do-that kinda project. Now I did, now I'm onto other things, the mould needs to be smoothed out, but haven't gotten to it after 6 months :)

where did you get the Vid screen for $200 and what inputs / resolution does it run.

Thanks

ZPaul2Fresh8
12-23-2003, 07:04 PM
Actually I got the screen for $170

Resolution is 800x600 LCD w/ TFT
2 Video Inputs as well as 2 Audio Inputs (L&R Stereo Sound)
with TV Tuner and Remote Control.

And it's PAL and NTSC compliant.

Yes all that for $170.00
Its manufactured by Philips.

I have a 2nd unit, but burnt something out on the board by hooking the 12v power into the 5v spot! So the 2nd one I ordered I got a power cord for free so it plugs into the cpu board.

But the screen's good for a backup :)

Thats pretty cool. I probably wouldn't do it, but it looks pretty cool.

Where did you get it for $170 and do they sell smaller ones ?

ZPaul2Fresh8

I got if off eBay about 6 months ago, he didn't have smaller ones at the time, but he had bigger ones @ 1024x768!

I would look up the info on the auction, but eBay only goes back 30 days! Damn them! I switched to MS Outlook and I'm having import problems with my old e-mails so I can't get anything from them either.

I'm sure you can find something similar on eBay somewhere.

Thats the least of your problems my friend had a similar setup on his escalade and it got stolen but in the process they ripped his entire dash completely off. and the warranty had already expired.......7,000!!! in repair cost. I'd be careful where you park it and get a REALLY good alarm system.

Garage kept and Louisville Slugger alarm system, the good kind.

If someone try to steal something from my car it wouldn't be the screen. I'm not worried about it getting stolen, would be more upset about a broken window. Besides dash pieces are CHEAP for a camaro compared to an escalade!

Any one who has an escalade and doesn't even have insurance to cover vadelism is crazy, besides warrenty isn't supposed to cover vadelism or theft. Just get your windows tinted dark if there not already so no one can see it. I wouldn't bother putting a screen in if you can't watch TV, You can watch DVD's or play x-box at home but when you out and missing Smackdown or some other show, that's why i would want it. it's really stupid that you can get a pocket television that tunes televison for $60 but it cost $300 just to get a tuner for your car. I guess you could get like a home VCR for $50, Get one of those dc to AC power adapters for $30, set-up an attena and receive TV signals plus have a VCR for under $100, that might work.

Interesting. Props for being different and creative.

I'll stick with my in-dash flip out for now.

Pioneer 7" indash TV/DVD/CD:bow:

I don't like the in-dash units at ALL. Mine will be strictly for the passenger side. I have no need to watch TV while driving.

FYI- The in-dash screens tilt to the passenger side if you turn them.

I like to have the best of both worlds:

Thanks again, it's not 100% finished yet, but it'll get there.
I got it all hooked up, I just don't like toting the XBOX in my car! Need to buy a 2nd one and I'll be set!

It's good to have a modded XBOX with 50 games on the hard drive! No need to swap discs! Or reset it!

Hey cool idea bro! Ups to anybody who does something new to a Camaro, too many people with Camaros are afraid to try new stuff.

Come check out the fiberglass work I did on my dash, see what you think: http://www.sounddomain.com/id/brewer123

I like it, I just need the climate control though, other then that good job. I can't tell how well the piece is finished from the pics, but if you smoothed it out and made it look factory, it would look REALLY nice IMO.
