If you live in the midwest....

...how many of you would come to a f-body gathering?

Specifially the 2004 Second Annual Midwest F-Body Gathering...in Des Moines, Iowa.

I put one together last year and got good results. Pics can be seen here:

PICS from 2003 Meet (http://www.geocities.com/vipervenemgts/2003meetpics)

Plans this year include a BBQ in my 2 acre back yard, maybe a dyno day at local machine shop, and maybe go-karting too in a brand new go-karting facility.

T-shirts will probably be made, awards may be given...it all depends on the amount of peeps that will show.

Anyone interested? If so, I need to get emails/screen names as to who will be coming.

Please fill out this form (http://www.geocities.com/midwest_fbody_meet/mailinglistform) at the new site I just put together. It can be viewed here (http://www.geocities.com/midwest_fbody_meet).

The dyno may be a thing of the past if we don't get enough peeps interested. It seems like it would be a day long event and I don't want to cram everything together.

A giant cruise was also brought up. Just think, lots of f-bodies going around Des Moines...that would be so cool.

Try to get the word out, as I have already posted on CZ28, TGO, MNF-BODY, EIFBA, MFBA, 3rdgen, StLoiusF_BODY, and f-body.com....and hopefully more.

I've been to Des Moines for f-body gatherings a couple times in the last few months :D

I do most of my talking with the IFBA through the Iowa f-body email list.

I recognize only one of those cars (Josh's white TA). Holy wing on a third gen batman

Kind of strange that I hang out with the Iowa f-body group and haven't seen hardly any of those cars or heard of this get-together

I'd probably make it. It's about a 4 hour drive for me so I have to make plans ahead of time. It looks like at least one of our members was there and he usually spreads the word ;)

When is this event taking place???

I'm about 5 min south of the Des Moines Intn'l Airport.

I'll be there, 2 hrs from Omaha, 3 1/2 hrs from the Twin Cities for the guys from the north.

As the meet comes closer we could do a "items for sale" that can be bought and delivered at the meet saving those nasty shipping fees and no worries for the buyer/seller.

Lets here some ideas from around the country to make this event fun for all.

I will try to keep everyone updated. I hope that this can stay as a sticky to attract more attention, but that means it will have to sit up here on the top for 6 months, fine by me.:)

I would like it to be f-bodies only, but if a vette or 2 shows up I wont send em packin, but like I said, try to stay f-bodies only.

Josh (DarkHalf) - I have talked to Brad Noon over from TGO who called Midstates Machines to get prices for the dyno. They said $250ish for 2-3 hours of runs.

Also, not to discourage the party, but no alcohol will be present at the BBQ:) The last thing we need is somene getting hammered and totalling their f-body. Plus we will all be going to the dyno too.

I have worked out a deal with an awesome graphic designer over at tgo to design a logo for this event. It will go on the flyers that will be put together, and I am also thinking about having t-shirts made. I will try to get a site together for this too, but I don't know if it will happen.

Parts/items for sale will be fine. Although I dunno if I'll be able to buy anything.

Just park next to my car and it'll look like the cleanest one there! :o :( I don't think the Iowa group has ever seen my car clean :D

Some sort of donations is a good idea, depending on how generous you are and what size a group will be there. Well It depends on how many people want to dyno. The dyno will be around $30-35 per person plus I will charge each person for the BBQ. Go-karting will also be xtra if we indeed do that too. And also if I have t-shirts made, you will have to buy one of those too if you want one.

I need to get out the calculator and do some punching to figure out the cost for each person. We can do hamburgers and hot dogs and chip, pop, desert, and whatever. I have some time to get this figured out so no rush.

There is a brand new carwash 3 miles away that you guys can use when coming through Norwalk. I have directions posted now with a map so you can get an idea of where you will be going.

And yes, (to clarify) the BBQ will be DRY (meaning no alcohol;)). I don't want a bunch of drunks running around. We will have pop, water, punch, or whatever floats your boats.

Directions can be seen by clicking Here. (http://www.geocities.com/vipervenemgts/Directions.pdf) They are in PDF so make sure you have AAR.

I will post on 3rdgen.org as well. If any of you guys know of any other f-body boards to post on, let me know, or take care of it yourself.;)

Sorry Nate, I didn't get much chance to talk or check out your car that day... I couldn't stop racing :D My car's a running joke in the club. I drove out to Cedar Falls Raceway and had to drive down one of those Iowa, gravel, back roads. My car was white on the bottom to grey on top at the strip :o

CMAN- Most of use don't care whether it's a V6, V8, a fourth gen or a second gen. As long as it's an f-body it's good, mods are a plus :thumb:

Joshp14- Let us know when some of the details are worked out. If you can actually keep a group of this size organized, my hats off to you :) I'd recommend a sign up sheet for each thing. I know for the dyno it'll be more difficult since you won't know prices until you know how many people are interested. I'm probably not, but if it gets cheap enough I may consider it. Hopefully the dyno shop can accomodate the # of cars, but it could turn into an all day event at the dyno

mongse_1
12-24-2003, 11:42 AM
If you have it the 11th, it'd work out perfect for me. I'll be returning from Green Bay for Power Tour.

It's about 400 miles from my house to Des Moines. I could probably make this. Any dragstrips in the area? Hell, even nice straight concrete roads would work for me. What about fuel? I may need some high octane dino juice if I turn the wick up on it. :D

joshp14
12-24-2003, 01:59 PM
Let's just hope that everyone doesn't want to dyno. Even if it takes 10 min per car, thats only 6 cars per hour. So we may have to take turns heading to the dyno in Des Moines cuz like you said, it could turn into an all day event.

I had planned on writing cars down as they drive in, how many peeps are in each car, whether they will be dynoing or not, and then giving them a sheet so they can fill out car info, and give each car a # to place on their dash so we can have a vote on cars for best of show and such.

mongse_1 - It's going to be a saturday cuz I don't want it to come into effect with anyones work day. No dragstrips nearby...but there is a gas station in Norwalk with like 110 racing fuel :D

I just got off the phone with MM (the place we are dynoing at) and they said that they would charge $500 for 8 hours worth of runs. He said it usually takes 30 min for 2 pulls, so that's 4 pulls per hour, or 4 cars per hour if each car gets one pull. So in 8 hours that's only 32 cars.

So if we have more cars than 32 that want to dyno, I'm not sure what to do. Cuz even if we start sending the cars there at noon, they won't be done til 8. And I don't know what the rest of us will do at the BBQ while the others are dynoing. Unless, we do the dyno day the day before the BBQ and make it a 2 day meet.

I'm all ears for suggestions..

I also called on t-shirts and got prices for that too. I did all the math and with a max of 6 colors on the logo or design for 6.1 oz ultra 100% cotton heavyweight (white) short sleeved shirts, the price would be $10 per t-shirt. Is that too expensive?

For food and drink, I'm thinking that each person could throw in $5 or maybe a little more. Just a estimate right now.

Josh I'm going to throw this out there for all of you to think about. This is just my opinion of course ;)

How about a big Cruise???? I don't know how this will work out all in one day. But for those that want to dyno, do that first thing in the morning till about 1:00-2:00 then we can all meet at your place right after that. BBQ till about 6:00 or so then go for a nice big cruise around Des Moines??? Just make a big circle around Des Moines???

Just a thought of seeing tons of fbody's of all make and generations all together is a neat scene :D

Give it some thought....

joshp14
12-28-2003, 09:53 PM
That sounds like an awesome idea. However, the dyno thing still presents a problem. Are you saying we should start the dyno thing like at 9AM then take it til 5PM? Only about 30-35 cars will get to dyno at 1 pull each....if we do an 8 hour session.

But hell yeah, the cruise around Des Moines aounds awesome and will get a lot of people going "Holy hell!";)

Any ideas on what to do with the whole dyno thing?

Darkhalf
12-28-2003, 10:30 PM
I'm personally not interested in a Dyno run since I was just at a dyno in Illinois about 4 months ago.

I guess you need to see how many people are seriously interested in a dyno?? That they know that it is a Mustang Dyno, not a DynoJet, which some of them might prefer over the other.

If there isn't enough interest, then you might want to throw the dyno thing out the window. You might be calling this a Dyno Day instead of a BBQ Gathering/Cruise

Got some time to think about everything, but then again Spring/Summer is just around the corner as well :o

You make a good point Josh. I'm not sure how many peeps will want to dyno. I will have to ask everyone if they want to or not via PM or email. I will need some help getting all of this setup and I really appreciate the help you are giving.

Do you want me to change what I'm calling it to a gathering/cruise? Cuz I have been calling it a meet/gathering/BBQ...

I don't mind if other peeps come in their other cars, but this show is a f-body only show. So you can come and park, but you won't be officially part of the show.

Darkhalf
12-29-2003, 12:24 PM
This is your show and I will just give you my input ;)

I think you need to create a sign up sheet, so to speak and have a cut off date as to when you can finally sign up for a dyno. If you don't have lets say no more than 15-20 people by the cut off date then axe the dyno event off of the agenda. I mean you could possibly have 35-50 people interested in a dyno and you know they will not be able to do all of them in one day.

I personally think this should be a Gathering/BBQ/Cruise Event. The dyno thing is a great idea don't get me wrong, but I think trying to push everything all in to one day is quite a bit. A Dyno day, well is a complete long day event.

Like I said this is just my opinion, but its your show you do what ever you'd like to do. I think its great your taking charge and creating this type of event

Also the C5 owners that used to be fbody owners ;) you know who you are :p Hopefully Josh will allow you guys to join in on the fun, cruise, BBQ, but you guys can have your own parking spots :D :p

I'll definately be there even though I'm from way up here! Gotta hit up that car wash first though lol. Anyone from ND and MN PM me, maybe we can meet up and follow each other down. Right now, its me and my buddy with his 2000 Z from Bismarck.

Well, I still need another 12 to sign up for the dyno BY June 1st. If I don't have the full 30 slots filled by June 1st I will be forced to cancel the dyno. I really dont want to do that...as its one of the main events of the meet. So, knowing that, if anyone knows anyone thats coming, and wants to dyno for a fair price, please tell them to sign up at the site!!!

As far as lodging goes, I won't be able to get any discount rates unless a slew of people are staying at one particular hotel. I didnt get a hotel picked out in time to get everything set up as I had school to deal with and also work. Now I'm out of school I can get stuff ordered.

What kind of lodging were you looking at?

Josh

just a room w/ 2 doubles... nothing fancy. It would be cool to be around the other participants, though. Have you heard if people are already migrating towards a specific hotel?

I'm not sure of one specific hotel, but I am pretty sure that some of them will be staying in hotels in the vicinity of I-35/University Ave. area in West Des Moines.

Next year I am going to go with one hotel in that area and tell everyone to go there for lodging. I know that doesnt help people for this year, but it will be that much better for next.

Sorry about the delyaed response...I had to drive up there and get the name of the hotel there and sure enough, it's a Holiday Inn:

HOLIDAY INN /UNIVERSITY PARK

I just called the Holiday to get reservations. They're down to Smoking rooms w/ King beds and Queen rooms w/ handicapped accessibility. (for the 11th and 12th) They cost $89 a night. They've got suites w/ Kings for $125 a night.

Oh, and you've got 8 spots left on the dyno. ;)
