Note:
The Los Angeles Auto Show is open to the public starting January 4th.
Detroit's North American International Auto Show opens to the public on January 10th.
For the public, the very 1st place you will be able to see the new Corvette C6 is in LOS ANGELES, not Detroit
Los Angeles gets to show it to thepublic before Detroit.

It took forever to get into too because they patted down every person on the way in.

San Jose and Santa Rosa are right in the heart of our treehugger territory out here, yet both cities are Meccas of automotive enthusiasm and cruise areas. Oakland also has a pretty strong underground car culture (think of the REAL "Fast & Furious")
Also, anytime the Oakland Bay Bridge is empty at night, you are most certainly going to see someone racing somebody.
Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to survive up there.

Even though our cities aren't the size of those in Cal, we still have a great car culture in places. Our emissions laws are nowhere near the Golden States.
Besides, what's wrong with an area that has six 1/4 mile drag strips within 200 miles?
hmmm....The LAIAS site shows it starting on the 2nd and going through the 11th. The 29th and 30th being media/preview days.
I'll be in town visiting family until the 3rd so I was planning on going the 2nd. I'll miss the vette, but I'd at least like to check out last years SS concept in person.

and yeah, Santa Clara county has some of the better speed/auto shops in the Bay, but that's also because its more industrial, where many other places are more residential.
There are a couple of issues here.
First....concept cars...they are "one offs" which means there's one of them. (Except the Cheyenne...there's a real one...and there's a 'foam" --looks like a real vehicle except that the windows are dark tinted...and you notice there's no interior!)
Second....shows are on top of each other.....so as we schedule the concepts, we look not only at attendance/location, but how the schedule fits together .... (i.e. we can hit this many cities with this particular car without running into time constraints.....)
Third....space. Most convention centers aren't that large....and we can only get so much floor space. San Diego is a good example..we were able to get substantially more space this year (uncommon!).....and because it overlaps Washington, Los Angeles, and Indy, I tried to get some 'uncommon' stuff to San Diego...thus the pace cars and race cars..........
Getting back to point number 2....in February...we have as many as SEVEN shows going on at the same time........so it's a juggling act to ensure that each show gets some blingbling.......
