Hello Everyone,
I a mustang driver whose a complete newb when it comes to tuning my wifes ls1. I wanted to buy her exhaust cutouts for christmas. First, what is the stock exhaust pipe width on a '98 Z28? Second, will I need one or two cutouts? And third, whats the cheapest one I can find that is electronically controlled? Thanks in advance,
Sean.

The stock I-pipe is 2 3/4". You only need one 3" cutout. My mccord power plate was cheap and works great, but you'll find people that say they have had problems.

I have the QTEC installed under the rear seat. You can check them out at www.quicktimeperformance.com

I ordered a electic cutout from McCord because I actually haven't heard of anyone having any problems with it since the newer model came out. I heard to many people having problems with the QTEC. Plus it's a lot cheaper than the QTEC. But I ordered it more than three weeks ago and have yet to receive it :(

Not a LS1 but I have a DMH E-cutout on my Lt1 car. In quality I would have to say they are the best!! Theres a Group Purchase going on in the Paying Advertisers section of this forum for DMH cutouts. They also have free shipping and a full 4 year warranty.
click on my sig for DMH E-cutout Demo on my borla.
Thx,
Claude

1 3' inch cutout should do the trick, your lookin at a good 10 hp there for 30 something bucks

Thanks for all the feedback.
So the 3" cutout wil weld right into the 2 3/4" piping? Also, where along the exhaust is the best to install it?
Also, one more question for anyone who knows anything of California smog laws....is the car still street legal with the cutout? Will I pass inspection?

You need to go with a single 3 inch cutout. I like to put mine under the rear passenger seat, their is a nice place for it there or you can have it just over the bend in the axle so it exits out the back. When doing smog inspection just cap the cutout, works for me.:)
