HEEEELLLP!!! I got my car door all torn apart, fun thing to do on a friday night, and I noticed that the door is completely different than the instructions that I have been trying to follow.

The window motor kinda looks like the right one, and I checked with autozone and they did get me the right part number. Now there are a few differnt holes already drilled by the rivets I could use, and 3 of the 4 line up perfectly with the holes in the motor. Should I (a.) Use the 3 holes that work and settle for that, (b.) drill a 4th hole or (c.) go to the dealer tomorrow and get raped paying for a new window motor that will be an exact match? Thanks guys!

Good gosh, man....avoid the dealer! You could probably feed a monkey a 12-pack of beer and set him loose on your Z with a wrench and achieve better results.
The directions you have are top notch. I replaced the window on my old 97Z with those a couple months ago and had no problems. The motor itself has SEVERAL holes drilled around it. Only THREE of those holes are used to attach the motor to the retaining bracket and mesh the motor gear with the window reluctor. (The reluctor's the big crecent moon shaped gear on the window).
Duble check the diagram in Shoebox's instructions against your door carefully. There should only be three holes to drill and they will expose the three rivetsthat hold the window motor to the door. If the existing holes already expose three rivits, then that's all of them. The rivets need to be drilled through. I used a 1/8"? bit for this.
Once the three rivets are found/ drilled out, the Autozone motor can be installed by sliding it behind the metal door bracing and into position. Use the three supplied nuts/ bolts that came with the Autozone motor to secure it. Then test the motor before screwing the door panel back into place.
Also, keep your reciept for the "lifetime warranty". I only got 16 months average life from my Autozone motors on my old Camaro!!

Well, 3 of them line up. Heres the problem though... THERES 4 RIVETS!!! and theyre all exposed. I wish I had a digital camera.

Just attach the 3 that line up, dont worry about the one that doesnt line up.....it wont hurt anything.....

The holes on the new motor will line up with the holes on the door..... Whats the problem?:confused:

me = retarded. I saw 4 rivets, got all excited thinking "hey mines different I dont have to drill!" and got lost from there. I think I got it. Thanks, I love you guys!

Just to be sure you got it..... only THREE rivets/ screws need to be attached on the new window motor :D Seriously, on the LT1 cars only three rivets are used. That's what Shoebox's directionsa are for. There is no structural difference between the door/ window motor of a 96 Z28 LT1 and a 98+ LS1 model. Just drill out all the rivets on the existing motor, atach the new one with the THREE set nuts/ bolts...... and you're back in the power window business........ worry free.
Good luck.... it shouldn't take too long. I changed the motor in my old 97 Z28 in under 2 hours :)

Make sure when you get the new motor installed to grease the hell out of the regulator. I bought a can of heavy duty white lithoum lubue grease and I sprayed the entire track where the roller rides when the window goes up/down. After you put the door panel back on, put the window all the way up and open the door. Look at the inner door(where the option code sticker is and where the door lock/latch is) at the base of the window there is a triangular piece of rubber. I used a brand new, sharp as hell, razor blade and trimmed the black rubber away from the glass, just a little, to make sure it wasn't touching. This peice of rubber acts as a seal of sorts, but it also creates A LOT of friction on the glass when it goes up/down. This added friction will eat up motors really quickly.
