10 bolt?69camaro383 12-11-2003, 12:29 PM Is anyone running a 10bolt in thier camaro. Is it worth putting new axles and posi in? MTmace 12-11-2003, 02:11 PM I guess it depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for better performance and a stronger rear axle that can handle an increase in HP it is worth it. I have a 10 bolt but plan on replacing it with a 12. MTmace StoveBolt 12-11-2003, 10:31 PM there is different 10 bolts .. the 8 1/2" 10 bolt like in the late 70s camaros was almost as strong as a 12 bolt.. (same pinion shaft diameter) more of them around and alot cheaper than 12 bolts these days.. 81Z28355 12-12-2003, 09:06 AM I have the 8.5" 10 in my car, what I did was put in Moser axles, richmond gears and a Auburn posi. I run in the high 12's with Nittos and dont have any problems. I have buds with the same setup in the low 11's no probs. StoveBolt 12-12-2003, 09:11 AM http://www.moserengineering.com/products.htm camrat68 12-12-2003, 01:38 PM I'm running a 10 bolt out of a 74 Nova with no problems behind a 454/TH400 combo only because I haven't found a 12 bolt yet. I put in new axle seals and bearings and that's about it. It's taken everything I've thrown at it so far with no problems. talos 12-12-2003, 03:15 PM 10bolts 8.5" can be very strong, i have seen 10sec cars run 10bolts... mind you that the 7.5" was worthless, but the 8.5" was quite strong... 12bolt is stronger... 9inch is strongerer... lol BIGBADBOWTIE 12-14-2003, 01:47 PM Im running an 8.5 10 bolt in my 78. Moser axles, spool, welded tubes and c-clip eliminators. Its lived beind my small block to many high 10 sec passes. Kurt Urban used to run in the NMCA Real Street class. He ran an old Bush Grand National V6 with a ton of dope in an early model camaro. He ran an 8.5 10 bolt to low 9 sec passes. quicksilver97ta 12-15-2003, 10:59 AM OK, the 8.5 mentioned above has two side gears, one on each axle and 2 spider gears correct? Whats with the 10 bolt that has 4 spider gears? I beleive its older, it is definitely a posi but I don't think it has clutches like the others. Instead I think the side gears spool onto the carrier. Does anyone know about this one? How strong is it? StoveBolt 12-15-2003, 11:07 AM http://www.novaresource.org/axle.htm Daniel Mitchell 12-24-2003, 01:48 PM Since it looks like I'm the only one here running an 8.2 10 bolt I thought I'd chime in. Mine seems to do very well with a 200 shot hit off the line. Nothing has broke yet(knock on wood) and my best 60' time is a 1.51. My 8.2 is stock except for the Eaton limited slip unit and Strange 3.73 gears. If I ever break an axle, which is what I expect to give up first, I'll probably stick in some stronger stock replacement 28 spline axles like from Superior. Just don't waste your money on a 7.5". Good luck. Black Box 01-01-2004, 01:31 AM There's a lot of turbo Buicks running 8.5 10 bolts, and they are notorious for producing obscene amounts of torque. :) A lot of the faster guys upgrade with aftermarket axles, Eaton diffs, and a T/A Performance rear cover. Mine is stock except for the T/A cover. Steve talos 01-01-2004, 01:37 AM FYI the rearend doesn't produce torque :p but it can take it  nice car btw Black Box 01-01-2004, 03:02 AM Haha aren't you funny! :p Thanks, your '80 is sweet. My brother is restoring an '80 Z28, he's got a way to go yet but it should be top notch when he gets done. Steve Greed4Speed 01-01-2004, 08:50 AM Check out the LTI&LS1 threads and see how crappy the 7.5 is. I still don't know why GM builds strong engines only to back it w/a POS rear. quicksilver97ta 01-02-2004, 11:09 AM Originally posted by Daniel Mitchell Since it looks like I'm the only one here running an 8.2 10 bolt I thought I'd chime in.
