WOW... I thought the Duramax was going to be updated first to the 600 ft-lbs range but looks like Dodge beat GM to it...

The Duramax will be close if not over that very soon. We have orders on the "Upgraded Duramax" already incoming. #'s aren't officially out yet, but I have a little inside info that should make the GM camp sleep easily, despite the new Cummins. Rest easy friends.

Not exactly. Duramax is a solid performer and just a short time ago, late 2000 it set the standard for the new generation diesels. It was the first to obtain the quiet diesel technology (Bosch injection), first with a world class 5spd automatic to back it up.

Ford launched it's new '03 PSD with lack luster results and press. Dodge's best automatic transmission is still a 4spd. The Dodge 48RE is in simple terms a 47RE (4spd) with heavy dose of electronics/programming implementing major torque management. Currently the Cummins isn't 50 state legal.

How you get the power to the ground and manage it is ut most important on how an application will perform.
Full scale production of the new Duramax (LLY RPO) begins later this weekend. No final word yet on what it's HP/TQ rating are.

If there's one thing GM's done rather well in it's trucks.

Note from above I stated "currently". Currently the Dodge Cummins HO is only 47 state legal.
