cndctrdj 12-02-2003, 04:39 AM i really suck at driving.
the more i run my car the more inconcistant i get.
well anyways tonight i ran a 14.15 at 103
i had a 2.48 60ft
does this sound really wierd to anyone else?
and also any tips on getting a better 60ft, like what rpm should i launch the car at? how much clutch should i ride out or should i at all?
HungryT/A 12-02-2003, 12:04 PM Yep, that's pretty much your level. Get that 2.48 60' down, and you'll dip into the 13s!
I found that launching off at a high rpm and feathering, riding the clutch nets me better 60' times than dropping it at a lower rpm.
On street tires, I launch at 3000rpm, on ET Streets, if well heated, I can launch from 4500rpm.
Note, I have 3.73's.
gunter96ws6 12-02-2003, 02:11 PM dont feel bad, i went from 2nd to 5th last time i was at the track and turned a 15.6~gunter
scott9050 12-03-2003, 03:01 PM Old rule of thumb, every .10th off the 60 ft time is .2 on the top end of the track. Drop that to a 2.0 and you might run in the 13.teens.
cndctrdj 12-03-2003, 03:13 PM ok i can't launch my car at anything fast i lose too much traction.
at around 3700 rpm's i lose traction in first and then the same happens in second, right as i shift in second i lose traction. i ran a 14.00 at 102.1 last night. how much should i warm up my tires i have goodyear eagles. or should i warm them up at all?
scott9050 12-03-2003, 11:49 PM You just need to slightly spin them to clean them of rocks. Radial street tires do not gain traction when heated. Isuggest a good set of drag radials. I might also recommend some VHT trackbite for the stock tires if you do not want DR's, I have seen it help quite a bit on friends cars.
Antz97ZNJ 12-04-2003, 01:22 AM your trap speed seems good...Your times should be much better i wouldnt be to concerned its not your car..those 60's are horrible
HeavyChevySS 12-04-2003, 12:52 PM Get some drag radials or et streets FIRST.
DON'T DO THE FOLLOWING WITH A NON-STICKY TIRE!
Do a nice burn out (around 8-10 secs)
Stage up, bring the RPMs up to 3500 and drop the clutch and push the GO pedal all the way down.
If you spin the tires then try the same thing except feather the GO pedal next time. If you don't spin and the car pulls hard THEN next time, try the same thing at 4000 rpms and you might see lower 60 fts.
ETC ETC>
good luck.
ps- damon had a 93 firebird lt-1 that he had running 13.5 and it was stock except for free mods and other mods less than $50.
cndctrdj 12-05-2003, 01:50 PM well i tried warming up the tirezs a little bit
got a question, what rpm should i be spinning the tires too?
so anyways i still can't get my 60' time down still a 2.41. but i didn't spin anymore in sec and brought my time down to 13.78 at 104.7mph. i can't launch at anything higher than about 1700rpms.
i guess its gonna take more practice.
well thanks for everyones help. i appreciate all of it.
and i will keep you posted on my progress
90rocz 12-05-2003, 02:18 PM I've always gotten better traction by heating my radials up pretty good...If you go thru the water, you have to make sure you sling it outta all of the tread really good too. Or while you're staging you'll get a nice little puddle under the tires and just do another burn out while leaving...

ehhhh i dont know about that.....i think it tends to be more like every tenth in the 60 foot is like a tenth to a tenth and a half up top.....at least in m y experience.....
example......12.31 w/ 1.8 60 foot ----> 12.11 with 1.6

Where are you running, considering you have a blizzard up there right now?

Depends on the combo and conditions. Mine was closer to 2 10ths.
