(btw, I have registered ;) )
guionM 11-26-2003, 07:18 PM Ditto Impala.
SFireGT98 11-26-2003, 09:12 PM V8!?
I figured the Impala would have it but I never put 2 and 2 together and figured the Grand Prix would also see it. Great news!!

morb|d 11-27-2003, 06:10 AM wow, they're stuffing a small block in everything these days. are we going to see one in the new Malibu too? :D
USHotRod 11-27-2003, 07:24 AM Thats great. I love the styling on the new GP's, but I couldnt live with a V6 car that big. This changes everything though. Does anyone have an idea how much it will be with the 5.3. Also, is this the same small block from the trucks or a new one?
mgreen 11-27-2003, 07:30 AM sweet.
I'll take a 2005 GXP, a new hood w/ a big bulge, and a new magnacharger to toss on the 5.3L !
Then you have a mean ass 4dr. that goes ~110mph or more in the 1/4.
Sounds cool to me.

Just be sure to start in the lane opposite the direction of torque steer.

Why V8's and FWD cars don't mix ;)
Sixer-Bird 11-27-2003, 05:56 PM I wonder if it will get the 4T80E tranny...
Jason E 11-27-2003, 07:35 PM I assume it HAS to get the 4T80E...if a 4T65E can't live behind a 3800 any beeifer than a Series III at 260hp...then it sure as hell won't last behind a torquey V8.
Now if they made a TWO DOOR...oh wait, thats a GTO. Too bad its kinda expensive for me :)

True that, no way it's going to be the 4T65E.

Torque steer is conspicuously absent from my 04 GTP's handling. It was a much more common problem in the 1970's and 80's but with a few key suspension and driveline refinements, it's been largely banished from modern FWD's.

While I agree it has been reduced, i wouldn't say it has been largely banished. Even with 4 cylinder cars, torque steer exists. Or how about Nissan Altima/Maxima with its V6 245/260 HP engine. Even when changing lanes on the highway, you have to compensate for torque steer BEFORE you floor the car, and similarly, BEFORE you let go off the accelerator. Talk about crazy...
SRT-4, with its healthy torque amounts, still suffers, although not as much as most expected.
What I see that may assist is the heavy weight of V8 GXP, perhaps GM will also add some traction control or other features (equal length half-shafts). It better have a limited-slip differential. For normal driving this is fine, but try and take off quickly or with some spirited driving.... Even my Integra with 1.8L engine has torque steer if taking off the line, and when the surface is wet, I have to be a little careful even at higher speeds.
On the other hand, perhaps torque steer in 70's or 80's was higher, so I cannot make that comparison.
30thZ286speed 11-30-2003, 03:40 AM Yes, Torque steer is pretty much a thing of the past, my dads ETC has 300hp Northstar, and it has very little torque steer.
scott9050 11-30-2003, 04:30 AM Sounds like an interesting car coming.
Darth Xed 11-30-2003, 10:40 AM An interesting thing about my two current V6 FWD cars:
the Monte, with 60 less hp, seems to have more torque steer than the 04 GTP... I found that a bit odd.
guionM 12-01-2003, 02:40 PM Another little tidbit to add here.
The V8 is replacing the supercharged V6 across the board as the 3.8 production winds down.
This also means the new Regal is also likely to have the 5.3 V8.
This also means my assumption that Buick was going to continue with supercharged V6s as their top power was wrong.
Does this mean the GP GXP will have more HP and cost less than the Bonnie GXP?
formula79 12-01-2003, 08:01 PM intereasting bit....according to a prettyy reliable source I tallked to today...the 4T65E will be offered with the V8...not the 4T85E which is too expensive.
SageofKnight 12-01-2003, 09:35 PM Remember that V8 Grand Prix concept called the G8? Well...

How the 4T65E can take 300-350HP is beyond me...maybe AWD is the key?
