dj haf 11-22-2003, 02:08 PM from what my friend tells me, all air foils (TPiS, JET, and even those cheap-o's you get on ebay) are the same... is this true? if it's not true, which do you believe (or has been proven) to flow better? im not in the mood to spend $20 on an air foil that wont do **** when i can spend another $10 on a better one that'll get me a few more ponies. reason i want one is because i have the home made ram air setup and i think an air foil would do me some good :D thanks guys
doug791 11-22-2003, 04:24 PM im still not convinced they do much anyways. Get the cheapest one you can find its not going to make much of a difference either way.
87DJP2001 11-22-2003, 04:53 PM They all do the same thing (almost nothing) from the most expensive to the cheapest. So buy the cheapest, every little bit helps.;)
Patriot 11-22-2003, 05:05 PM +6 hp on stock 350
+12 hp on modified 350
87DJP2001 11-22-2003, 05:19 PM In your dreams for those numbers. And I have a modded 350 and do have a airfoil and it did not contribute those numbers to my rear wheels.
97WS6SCharged 11-22-2003, 11:19 PM Did nothing on my LT1, I've heard they work better on a TPI. I never did try it with my GTA, and guess I won't get the chance now. Oh well. Try one and see what you get, at most you're out 30 bucks or so, not a big loss.
lordmetalz28 11-22-2003, 11:40 PM go on ebay get on for 10bucks he one that bolts in is a better choice. i have real ram air and i really felt no difference
Brit Iroc 11-23-2003, 07:46 AM You might as well get a better flowing t/body. The BBK one I have is all smoothed off at the front for better airflow.
dj haf 11-23-2003, 01:10 PM i was thinking about getting another tb so i went online and did a few searches but i didnt find the answer i was looking for. i wanted to know which aftermarket tb flowed the best... and even though im not making a lot of power right now, should i get a 58mm tb? im going to end up stroking my car out anyways, so i'd hate to have to get a 52 mm one for now, sell it, and go get a 58mm one...
Brit Iroc 11-23-2003, 01:19 PM If you are going to stroke it you might as well get a 58mm.( My 9 yr old just read your post and said "If he's going to stroke it ,why doesnt he get a cat...as in meow !!!!!!!). :)
FastWhiteTA 11-23-2003, 01:39 PM 52 mm TB is enough for most street racing cars, even stroked engines. And air foils don't really do much, less than 1 rwhp on LT1s, and probably about the same on an L98. 52mm TBs don't even do much, maybe a couple rwhp on a bolt on engine. Reason being is the 48mm stock one isn't that restrictive for only those mods. Now on a heads and cam engine it might do more hp, but I'd wait until you stroke the engine to get a bigger TB. 58mm cost the same, might as well wait and just get that one.
IROC-T 11-23-2003, 05:19 PM Save your money on an air-foil and put it toward the price of a 52mm TB it will be big enough for your application. If you go 58mm your going to have to port your plenum so the throttle plates will open and it won't give you anymore power than the 52mm as your intake will restrict the air flow any way.
AutoRoc 11-23-2003, 05:48 PM Good idea for a blown car but otherwise...:) Save yer money for gas or look for a used one. Someone usually sells theirs to recoop the money they basically got scammed for by buying it..:) I know I included mine with some ported intake parts just to be a nice guy.haha
raul.garcia 11-24-2003, 01:08 PM Air Foil has no significant effect on power until rpms are 6000+, albieit a small effect, but it does smooth the flow for a better throttle response, but I bought mine just for the looks.
doug791 11-24-2003, 01:58 PM i hear adds for air foil's that are supposed to smooth air flow and net you a hp gain. I hear adds for tb spacers that make the air swirl giving you better fuel atomization. I figure theyre both just bs and ESPECIALLY on a stock intake system neither are going to make a damn bit of difference. I bet buying a bottle of fuel injector cleaner would help more then an air foil.
dj haf 11-24-2003, 02:27 PM I bet buying a bottle of fuel injector cleaner would help more then an air foil.
LMFAO
doug791 11-24-2003, 02:59 PM im really not kidding man, if your fuel injectors are dirty a bottle will net you a better horsepower gain then an air foil would. Best bang for your buck ;)
dj haf 11-24-2003, 03:04 PM im going to take my fuel injectors out and have them cleaned instead of using that bottle of fuel injector cleaner... that sh!t really doesn't work
doug791 11-24-2003, 05:45 PM maybe not, in that case take the money you were gonna spend on the air foil and put it towards that much better idea IMO
Zepher 11-24-2003, 06:30 PM I have 2 of them, one on my Trans Am and one sitting in a box, probably will put it on the formula eventually.
I personally wouldn't buy them, which I didn't. My friend bought a TPIS one, then I talked him into getting a new TB from Holley and he gave me the new TPIS one. The other I got in a trade for some wheels.
97WS6SCharged 11-25-2003, 08:18 AM I got the big Holley 58 on my LT1. Didn't notice too much difference, but then again it's on a supercharged car anyway. It does look great with the polished LT1 manifold and all the polished supercharging plumbing though.
