Car Broken Down!guyver182 11-21-2003, 02:07 AM MY CAR WONT START! it has a pretty brand new battery and has been kept up really really well it is a 89' camaro v8 RS and it just wont turn over. PLEASE HELP! krazzycowgirl 11-21-2003, 02:13 AM Couple of questions for you there when you try to start the car does it try to turn over but will not? Or does it not want to even try to turn over? Couple things you might want to check is: If it does not want to turn over it could be the Starter or the Alt. Or you might also want to check to see if the Fuel pump (which is in your tank) is trying to go when you are trying to start the car. Easy way to do this is have someone stand next to the gas tank while you try to start the car if they are hearing a noise from the tank then the fuel pump should be in working order. Also Check your fuel filter its under the drivers door. it may be clogged. guyver182 11-21-2003, 02:19 AM it doesnt not even try to turn over like its just dead. krazzycowgirl 11-21-2003, 02:23 AM Then it could be almost anything. Check for spark & fuel. is the check engine light coming on? guyver182 11-21-2003, 02:29 AM yes it does say check engine light but i also has all the other lights on too. chevyman502bb 11-21-2003, 12:36 PM i dunno if this would make sense but its worth a try.........fuses? chevyman502bb 11-21-2003, 12:40 PM hey man, i hope u dont mind me posting a ? in ur thread, heres my question......my motor came from an 87 Z, its a 4 BBL carbed 5.0...is it lb9? lo3? whats the deal? Garage Inc. 11-21-2003, 01:18 PM I would say check the fuses if you have a new battery, let us know man how you make out Originally posted by chevyman502bb hey man, i hope u dont mind me posting a ? in ur thread, heres my question......my motor came from an 87 Z, its a 4 BBL carbed 5.0...is it lb9? lo3? whats the deal? An easy way to tell as long as it's the stock engine.. if the eighth digit (letter) in your VIN number is.. "F" = LB9 "E" = LO3 and you could also have an LG4 maybe.. "H" = LG4  chevyman502bb 11-21-2003, 01:20 PM i cant use the VIN cause the motor came out of a different car, and ill be damned if im goin back to the junkyard just for some #'s guyver182 11-21-2003, 02:06 PM IT STARTED THIS MORNING! a guy at my work said it could be the cylanoid in the started that cyndrical thing next to the engine towards the bottom. so i went to a mechanic and he says that could be it. cause the battery and evreything else in there are fairly new. so it only just doesnt start if it gets too warm...guess i should only drive to work from now on. lol. at least untill i get paid. if anyone knows what else it could be email me at voltron182@hotmail.com chevyman502bb 11-21-2003, 02:33 PM im glad she fired up man, nothin like solving a problem that leaves you stranded....lol LandryP 11-21-2003, 02:34 PM Make sure the battory cables are clean and tight on the battery and the engine block every third gen that i've owned has given me problems like this that usauly turns out to be a bad connection. Also next time it wont crank turn the lights on and see if they are bright, if there bright you probly have a good connection, and you can try gently tapping the starter with the handle of a hammer while someone else turns the key, this can free up a sticking solenoid doug791 11-21-2003, 02:51 PM AHHHH i cant believe i didnt think of that im retarted. Yes id almost guarantee its your solenoid. The problem in our cars is called "heat soak" The solenoid is so close to the engine and our cars run so hot that the solenoid stops functioning. Your options include....there is supposed to be a heat sheild around the starter. If there isnt one anymore (they do fall off sometimes) then you can replace it but many people say it does jack all. Your other option is to buy a remote starter solenoid which you position i "think" somewhere in your dash thirdgen.org has a tech article how to put the solenoid in. Also a real good excuse to put in a push button starter just for fun :) But id be willing to bet dollars to pay its the solenoid. guyver182 11-22-2003, 12:14 AM that is what everyone has been telling me but i just wish it was cheaper than 160 to replace. lol. i have to get a new starter and the other thing. If anyone knows how to install it and know where to get it cheap and lives close to me PLEASE HELP MYSELF lol. krazzycowgirl 11-22-2003, 12:50 AM If you could get the car out to my place I am sure my husband would help you. Oh he asked when you want help. 97WS6SCharged 11-22-2003, 01:33 AM I would say to invest in a good powermaster starter and you shouldn't have any more problems with it. I've got a PM9500 on my supercharged LT1 and I've got one on my GTA (well, ok so it's sitting in the garage at the moment, but it was on there). firebirdjosh 11-23-2003, 07:26 AM My whole starter cost about $60 after I returned the core. Took about an hour to install becuase I am slow. I got it from Advanced Auto Parts. slayer6x6 11-23-2003, 10:36 PM The one thing ford did right was to mount the solenoid on the fender to avoid this type of problem. You could probably rig up a ford solenoid and connect it to the starter motor on your car...just a thought? krazzycowgirl 11-23-2003, 10:38 PM It was changed out yesterday & the car was fixxed. | ||
