Grifter 11-20-2003, 07:15 PM I want to start off by saying that I know there are alot of threads about the Pro 5.0 and I know that it's a great Shifter but I still wanted to know this:
The Pro 5.0 is compared to the B&M Ripper a lot but never really compared to the Stock Hurst Shifter. I have the Stock Hurst right now and it feels ok, but I was wondering how much better the Pro 5.0 is. Is it worth the $160-190 to replace the Hurst?
Thanks for any input!
Eric L 11-20-2003, 07:29 PM spend 20 bucks and get a short stick to see if you like the stock hurst before spending 150 on a new shifter... night and day difference... stock hurst is fine... the stick is not.

Grifter 11-20-2003, 07:32 PM Thanks for the Quick response.
I'll look into Lou's Short Stick.

Good advice. I just finished installing my Lou's short stick on the stock hurst an hour ago, and man it makes a hell of a difference. I'm so glad I decided on it instead of throwing away $150 for a whole new shifter.
chpmnsws6 11-20-2003, 09:16 PM the stick makes ALLLLLLLLL the differance!!!!!
i put a stick on the stock one and it felt like the pro 5.0!
(i have a ripper, pro 5.0, and just a stick so i have much to compare from)
Antz97ZNJ 11-21-2003, 01:56 AM I never liked my sisters factory hurst in her 00ss...Id go w/ the 5.0
Camaro_Guru16NY 11-21-2003, 10:26 AM I liked th Pro. 5.0 alot more tha the stock hurst. It just had a better feel to me. Now you can get a shorter stick with the 5.0 but i dunno how much shorter it is. probably the same as lous short stick.
Good luck,

Ron78Z&01SS 11-21-2003, 11:11 AM If you're thinking about a short stick you may want to consider Jarrod's for half the price of Lou's.
There was a couple of threads on this a couple of weeks ago:

demonspeed 11-21-2003, 11:45 AM I didn't feel the Hurst was that bad considering it is a stock shifter, but I went with a Pro 5.0 anyway. It was a night and day difference. Some people do prefer just to get a shorter stick for the Hurst, but I like the entire mechanism replaced just because the entire engagment is an entirely different feel. You can hear a lot too; some people don't like it that loud, but I like to hear what's going on so I know if it doesn't ever sound normal.
Just my .02
SHIZNIT 11-21-2003, 01:34 PM Big difference I love the 5.0
speedy0009 11-21-2003, 07:14 PM I went with the Spectacle Solutions short stick on my factory Hurst. It made a world of difference. Look into that, its a great product.
Grifter 11-21-2003, 09:21 PM Well the first half responses were for a Short Stick, the other Half the Pro 5.0, thanks alot guys!!...Just Kidding.
I think I'll go for the Short Stick first, I mean I can aways get the Pro 5.0 later.
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate all the input.
BTW: Where is the cheapest place to buy a LSS?
Rice Eater 316 11-22-2003, 12:06 AM Hey Eric L. Do you have a lind for the Lou's Short Stick??
Thanks.
whatsup 11-22-2003, 02:04 AM I just replaced a Hurst Billet Plus shifter with the 5.0. The biggest difference is when shifting HARD. The Hurst worked perfect for normal driving, but. when racing and the adreniline is pumping, jamming gears felt funny. It was almost like the handle was bending it would extend past the shift point. The 5.0 feels more notchy under normal driving (Hurst wins under normal driving) but when racing that's a whole different ball game! The bolts stops in the 5.0 work fantastic...really shorten up the pattern and make the shifts feel super solid! Pro 5.0 wins here.
Fast Caddie 11-22-2003, 11:46 AM Agreed.... when racing there is no comparison to the Pro 5.0. The thing is so accurate it's as if it shows you where the next gear is. Love this thing
LUV2XLR8 11-22-2003, 02:20 PM Another vote for Factory Hurst with Lou's short stick - makes a whole lot of difference - I never have any trouble rowing through the gears with this setup :)
Omega9 11-22-2003, 10:10 PM Pro 5.0 :metal:
DinoZ 11-24-2003, 12:54 PM While I have never had a problem going through the gears with my stock Hurst, I sure have abused the heck out of the shift forks. You can hear them snapping and popping when you're powering down the track. I just bought a Pro5.0 from a friend for $60, so I would have the bolt stops to keep me from breaking the shift forks when grabbing gears.
kgkern01 11-24-2003, 02:22 PM Drove my friend's 2000 TA with Hurst, NO comparison to my Pro 5.0. Pro 5.0 is a much better shifter, not only in quality, but feels stronger also. Much more notchy, but when really rowing thru the gears, definitely the Pro 5.0 owns.:metal: :thumb:
Rice Eater 316 12-07-2003, 03:39 AM I was in the same position as you and I went and spent $25 on the Jarod's short stick and I'm mighty happy with it. The shifts are so much firmer and surer now... and I think it looks cool as hell having the nubby shifter instead of the big truck looking shifter.
