Debating on what intercooler setup I want to run.
what flows/cools better the ati twin highflows or a single ati 3core front mount intercooler.
i have heard the twin highflows are restrictive.. true?
setup will be a d1-sc ~15lbs maybe a bit more.
thik one of these will do or would I be better off going with a bigger intercooler? like the big ati sheetmetal 3core
thanks
IDOXLR8 11-19-2003, 08:01 AM How much hp are you planning on making? My car made over 700 rwhp at 14psi with ATI twin intercoolers. All I could squeeze out of my setup was 14lbs of boost. I spoke to someone at ATI and they told me that the twin high flows were only good for 700 hp.
would like to reach 700... but in the mid 600 range.
I searched on this and saw you said they were holding you back. Do you plan on upgrading to another intercooler setup?
Is the single ati 3core intercooler better then the twin highflows? I will be front mounting that or any other intercooler other then the twin high flows.

I currently have a Spearco front mount intercooler on order. As far as your question regarding the ATI 3 core intercooler it would depend if you are referring to the sheetmetal one or not. If you are referring to the sheet metal one than I would say it is better than the twin high flows. If not I would say the twin high flows are better.
Does Spearco have a website? yeah I was talking about the regular 3core.
IDOXLR8 11-19-2003, 12:29 PM I believe Spearco is owned by Turbonetics. Anyway here you go : http://www.turboneticsinc.com/
Lonnie Pavtis 11-19-2003, 06:04 PM For comparison,
The std 3-core is rated by ATI to 750HP
The twins are rated to 850HP. (in my opinion 750 is pushing it, but still better flowing than a std 3-core)
& the sheetmetal 3-core to 1000HP.
The twins are slightly more efficient (temperature wise) than the stock 3-core location due to airflow considerations & less radiant heat from the radiator.
The front mount may or may not work better (it should) than the stock 3-core location, depending on front end mods & ultimate air flow through the core. You fabrication skills will have a significant impact here.
Hope this helps.
I think im going to have a intercooler made.
IDOXLR8 - what size intercooler did you order?
brook - talked to you about the cooler yesterday you said you were gonna find out if the length was the tips of the outlet/inlets or the core.
thanks guys

sleeperz28 11-21-2003, 10:20 AM check out my website. You will see how my front mount is setup. This is the best way for the 4th gen camaro. My air temps at 20psi dont exceed 10 degrees over ambient. It usually increases 8 or 9 degrees after a pass.

What did you use to cut your bumper (around the fog lights)? Also where did you get the screen to protect the intercooler?

Hummmm, I think it was a jig saw. Screen just got from a local hardward store.
Ultra_Dog 11-21-2003, 06:16 PM I have twins (and paid extra), but wish I had the standard 3-core instead. The mounting of the twins at the outset is a total pain in the butt and has resulted in crimping of the lines. I am not sure ATI did a fair engineering job of what is involved in the real world to mount them properly. Too many pinched hoses and a real pain to work around.
Overall, they work good when just moving along, but the hoses are low and seems overly and unnecessarily complex.

I did the same and just used a small hacksaw and it came right out. Mine is protected with a billet grill though. Here are some pics.
