Need help solving a bet! What is faster stock down the track?LT1stunna 06-12-2002, 11:39 PM What is faster stock down the track? Would a stock 94 Z28 A4 be faster down the track than a stock 94 M6 z28? 2002Z28SSConv 06-13-2002, 05:11 AM I would think that the M6 "could" be faster with a good driver but the A4 would be easier more consistent and might be faster if the M6 driver didn't pull off perfect launch and shifts. MustangEater82 06-13-2002, 05:28 AM Depends on the launch. Stock for stock I think the M6 has an advantage, because they can "stall" the motor before they launch. Only so much you can do with the stock converter. also is 94 the year with more for acceleration gear ratios on the M6 tranny, or was that only in I think 93s. ------------------ 1994 Medium Quaser Blue Camaro 3.4L V6 w/ 5-speed Homeade CAI with a huge K&N cylinder filter, Single outlet Flowmaster with resonator, Accel 8mm ignition wires, Splitfire plugs, 3.42 gears and posi off a 97 WS6, 1 piece steel driveshaft, Converted to 4-wheel disc brakes, 1LE transmision mount, 1LE sway bars, Prothane bushings and endlinks, BMR Strut tower brace, ASP underdrive pulleys Lightest Weight W/out driver: 3160 15.696@86.22 with a 2.214 60'! But if you have some top-notch drivers that can drive both cars to the limit i would say the M6 just because you can control the engine speed. Just my 2 cents... ------------------ ~Wilson........ Now that is a lot to have happen. In the real world I would bet on the auto unless the driver of the 6-speed is very good. Later ... Just no way. I will also agree with the M6 being faster.. Put a stall converter on and its a different story. Camride~CFFB#15 06-14-2002, 04:41 PM I have to disagree with that last statement. Frank(96blackss) can shift faster than most auto's, trust me on this one. I have never seen anyone shift a manuel as fast as him, anyone who's ridden with him knows what I mean http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif But, I'd have to say that with a good driver the M6 is gonna win, but if the driver is anything less than good it's the auto's race. ------------------ Camride ~ 1994 Bright Red Camaro Z28 A4. Yeah it al depends on both drivers. The auto could be dumb and blow it at the line just as the Manual driver too. Most likely the Auto car would launch better by around 2 tenths, but the Manual car would make up that time by the end of the 1/4 mile, that is if the driver is GOOD. So have the guys do some runs with other people and see how they do at the line. Then you can do the bet. ------------------ my93z286spd@yahoo.com 93 Z28 M6 01 WS6 Trans Am A4 91 Talon TSi AWD Turbo 89 Suzuki GSX-R 750 Brevard Muscle Car Enthusiasts Founder www.gmmuscle.cz28.com Street Lethal Performance & F-Body Organization www.streetlethalperfomance.com Page w/ Mods & Movies ! www.93z286spd.cz28.com MislMan 06-15-2002, 08:07 AM Just a thought on an auto shifting as fast as a 6 speed. Remember to factor in the PCM into the equation since it looks for RPM's, speed, and load to determine when to shift. Granted most of this is in microseconds but they still have to all meet the criteria for a shift before the PCM directs the shift and it is then executed. For example. My T/A has a built tranny and lots of special items. I have it programmed to shift at 5400 RPM. In looking at logged runs the shift actually happens at 5800-5900 RPM due to vehicle acceleration being faster than the PCM reading all parameters and actually completing the shift. If I program it to shift 6100 then it hits the rev limiter at 6700 before it shifts. For the most part (on "equal" cars) the determining factors will be traction (60' times) and vehicle weight. Unless of course the 6-speed drivers is pretty bad at shifts or misses a shift. Just my .02 Later ...
