Hi I'm new here I have posted some questoins over on turbomustangs.com
but just found this site, and since i like chevys I think I'll start posting here more often. But on to my question. I would like to do a junkyard twin turbo setup on a 454 and was just wondering what turbos I could use (2 T4's ?)
I see powerstroke turbos go for cheap. Are these ball bearing? Are they any good? I would not be scared of a little fabrication as I have access to cnc mills
Also as the title implies what power level can I reach on the stock internals, with only forged pistons. I have never heard of someone cracking a 454 block so I assume or hope they would be good to 700hp. I know I asked a lot of questions so input on anything would be great. Thanks

My project goals would be to run in the low tens with room to grow, and be streetable even if I had to turn down boost.

Wow, big block twin turbo, nice. Is 700 your power goal? That is easier to help you with here than running tens, because that also includes chassis tuning...I know of plenty of cars that make massive power, but can't get it down the track any faster than a 14 when that motor should put itin the 11s.

As for the big block being able to handle it, that is a pretty vague question because there have been many different versions of that motor that have come from GM with power ratings of 200hp up to 450 and beyond. Something like an LS6 would probably handle a lot of power better than the junkyard motor you may be talking about. In any case, I would guess that the OEM rods could be a concern.

T4s would probably do it. A 60-1 is rated in the 450hp range which would give you a little bit of room to grow without changing out the hairdriers. The import guys I hang with tend to always go bigger than what they need so that they might have a little more lag, but have more efficiency on top end.

Yes I was refering to an average junkyard block. Rods are not a problem as they can be had for around 3-500. Mainly concerned with the block because that is a very large ticket item in the aftermarket. My goals are to eventually run mid 9's after experience.
As for the vehicle I can get a 66' Nova with 4 link rear tubbed and 33x19.5 Mickies. Now room in the engine compartment could be a problem though.

How about using 86-87 GN turbos or Syclone turbos ?

novas of that year had a pretty good size engine compartment i believe. my friend has a 65 and i am pretty sure it could house a 454 but i can't remeber if there was a style change in 66.
