94LT1Maro 11-17-2003, 12:30 AM Hey guys well I got a 3rd Gen Camaro. It's an 88 with a 5.0 in it and it didn't have RS or IROC-Z badging. I'm assuming it's a sports coupe but if u can shed some light on exactly what it is :D please do. Now there is a ? that I need answered.........the light at the back of the hatch has been on constantly and I don't know wether there's a switch to turn it off or not. It's probably an electrical problem or a bad sensor. Once again if u know what it mite be....please let me know. And this has got to be my dumbest ? of all. How in the **** do u open the hatch, is there a way to do it from the inside b/c if there isn't i'm just screwed. Okay well thanks guys i'm glad to finally have a Camaro  :D
90rocz 11-17-2003, 12:44 AM If it has a power hatch it will have a release between the power window buttons, that slides and "Pops" it. Other than that the key is the only other way I know.
Some of the cars do have a switch on the trunk light itself. You could crawl back and see.
Kuruption562 11-17-2003, 12:55 AM Post your VIN #'s and someone will let you know what u got.
Is it TPI, CARBED?
kevin 2.8 11-17-2003, 12:56 AM if its a power pop trunk the button will be below the shifter, right up from the console. if you have the door key flip down the liscence plate and the lock cylinder is under there. the light in the trunk has a switch right on the light.
krazzycowgirl 11-17-2003, 12:56 AM 1) look for the RPO codes they are either in your Center consol or in the Back box on the drivers side in the hatch area.
Look for L03 which is the Sports coup or a LB9 which is the Iroc.
In 88 there was only a Iroc or a RS this is the only year for this.
Question is it TPI or TBI
2) Opening the hatch. One use the door key in the lock behind the liscence plate ( it flips down) if you dont have one of these or the switch in the middle of the center console there is one more way. From the inside remove the interior molding and use a screw driver to pop the latch. BECAREFUL but it can open this for you.
GOOD luck
94LT1Maro 11-17-2003, 12:58 AM Engine Specs are 5.0 TBI as for VIN Numbers i'll post them tomorrow. I think it'd be cool if I had an IROC and didn't know it lol. Thanks again guys
Kuruption562 11-17-2003, 04:11 AM you got an RS IROCs werent TBI.
94LT1Maro 11-17-2003, 05:41 PM Did the RS's have an emblem delete option like the IROC's? Because this car doesn't have RS badging, but it also has IROC Spoiler, & Shift knob. So honestly the only thing I know is I gotta Camaro. lol as for my RPO Codes i'm just going to take a pic and e-mail it to whomever decodes them. So if u decode the RPO Codes leave me your e-mail and i'll be glad to send them to you. Thanks Again guys and god I love my car.
krazzycowgirl 11-17-2003, 05:51 PM one of the owners may have changed things. We find that Many RS owners wished they had a Z so they changed things. took off all the badging & changed the interior to have the Iroc stuff in it.
Go to www.thirdgen.org & run your RPO codes

305 TBI's were the base IROC motor

nah, the 305 TPI's were the base Iroc motor. The TBI's were for the lower base model camaros.
krazzycowgirl 11-17-2003, 09:42 PM There were only Two motors for the Iroc the 305 TPI & the 350 TPI no TBIs they were Basemodels

88/89 were the years that the TBI was the base(since 87 was the last year for carb), 87 and earlier it was carb(on the Z28 and T/A), 90-92 it was all TPI(on the Z28 and T/A)

damn, i didnt know that, I guess your right. sorry bro :D
krazzycowgirl 11-17-2003, 10:02 PM Not everything on Thirdgen.org is right.
doug791 11-17-2003, 10:13 PM sure it is.... :)
krazzycowgirl 11-17-2003, 10:16 PM Thats like saying everything you read in the Paper "The SUN" Is true.
Dave89IROC 11-17-2003, 10:20 PM what I think, is that although the TBI was the base, it had to be ordered without any option "packages"(I think most had one package or anoughter, and most came up with a TPI motor), my car doesn't have any "packages" on the RPO sheet, though it does show special order, has a decal delete code(no "IROC" on the doors), it does show the TBI(LO3) and the iroc (Z28) code, and the VIN does match the car
Kuruption562 11-17-2003, 11:43 PM haha i aint ever heard of a TBI IROC. sounds kinda funny.

kevin 2.8 11-18-2003, 12:22 AM my 85 dealer brochure has a 2 page spread on the 5.0 tpi engine, and on the next page the iroc spread states it comes with "optional" 5.0 High Output V8
demonspeed 11-18-2003, 12:12 PM TBI was the base motor period. If you won't want to beleive anything thirdgen.org says, then contact Chevrolet historical services or the restoration kits. 90 they went to all TPI.
TBI in IROCs is the reason people think they all suck. It's filth bags that get the TBI'd ones and rip them around and then get beat by Civic's who give 3rd gens a bad name.
94LT1Maro 11-18-2003, 10:51 PM So what y'all are saying is it is very possible I have an Iroc with the stripe delete option?
krazzycowgirl 11-18-2003, 10:53 PM Yes
94LT1Maro 11-18-2003, 11:13 PM Well that puts a smile on my face and hopefully it does turn out to be one. I still haven't ran my RPO Codes i'm just too lazy to write them down plus I don't have time to do it lol.
krazzycowgirl 11-18-2003, 11:24 PM Dx3 is the Decal/ Strip Delete code
demonspeed 11-19-2003, 08:19 AM So just pop your center consol and look at the sticker. They are in alphabetical order, so DX3 won't be hard to miss.
buzz12586 11-19-2003, 12:57 PM There was no RS in 1988. It would just be a base model Camaro. There was an option for the 305 TBI motor and a 5spd. That is what is on mine. So, no the emblems were not deleted. There were none to begin with, just simple "Camaro" things along the bottom near the front of the door.
demonspeed 11-19-2003, 02:14 PM There are those things that do say IROC on the side of the doors that DX3 got rid of... I think they are called stickers...
If it's an 85-87, it'll say Z28 on the gfx if it was an IROC anyway... but i'm sure we all know this

The Irocz "stickers" are Decals
demonspeed 11-19-2003, 10:11 PM it's a sticker :usa:
