GTO pricing
GTO pricing
So the official pricing is out. Is $32,495 the right sort of money for the GTO?
I can't believe they're charging you another $695 for the six-speed manual. It's a no-cost option on the Monaro and all V8 Holdens over here. Good rort.
Anyway, you get it good. The thing's A$59,350 out here (where it's built) and you get more power! That converts to US$42,150.
Geez. You give it more grunt, put it on a boat halfway around the world and it's still US$10,000 cheaper than we get it!

The series II had a healthy jump in price as well. Back when this GTO move started, I remember CV8s cost the equvalent of just of about A$52,000/US$32,000!
It is pretty odd our car version costs less than yours, though.

FWIW: Mickey knows Holden, so I'd trust his info.

the difference between the MN6 (t56) and the M12(t56) is closer spaced ratios, and an extra synchro for smoother , less knotchy shifts.
I'm really giving some thought to buying a GTO as a daily driver until the new Camaro comes out (assuming I like it)...
I suppose it's going to depend the on dealer markup (or how much they'll negotiate downward, if any) , availablility, and if I'll be willing to go without any rebate money, since I doubt we'll see any rebates in a rebate happy market...

i think the "peanuts" price is more to do with the USD being weak right now and less with us getting away with cheaper pricing. which happens to work out in our benifite for the time being.
and isn't it absurd that the manual has to be ordered as an option for extra cash?? unless its an F1 type SMG unit its got to be cheaper to make than any automatic. extra syncros or not.

Cheaper to make? Yes, probably. But the testing and certification costs must be spread over far fewer units.

what are you talking about? that same transmission is in countless vettes. i'd think all the costs ave already been spread out at this point.

When does the new 6 speed automatics come out? will the C6 have a A6?

I found this thread from a while back. It's got some questions about the transmission in the GTO that have been answered on the Car & Driver message board by Bob Kraut.
He doesn't get into a lot of specifics but does say that the M6 in the GTO costs a lot more to make than the A4.
