Killed by Civic SI + Questions

Hello all.
The story:
I am entering the freeway and a new blue Civic SI (no license plates) pulls up to me and is pacing me. As I said before I don't race much, but he was in his 4th by my side. I could hear that he is in his power band. Then the Civic punches it and I do the same. He got a jump on me for less then a second. I could not catch up!!!! I was not falling behind either. We were even. (at least I hope so) When I realized that I will not catch up and I don't want to go 100+ on the freeway I let go. He goes away :) I think I was killed!!! No, I wasn't killed, I was shot on the head and my brains are all over the place !!!!!!

Hypothetical thinking:
I raced an SI back in a day. We were both stock. I pulled him, but I had to go 5.3-5.4 rpm at every shift. Basically, I was pushing my car. Now, I read all the glorious stories of V6's beating the **** out of Civics and stuff, but I find it hard to be belive. More then half of the stories is we, as V-6 owners, racing some dumb asses. In fact, I was killed by a turbo Civic in SF looong time ago. So, how much of our "kills" is true ???? Never on this board I over exaggerated my statistics on races, conditions and outcomes.
Back in a day when my ex-gf had a 2k Celica GTS I put some comments on this board. I did some research and I saw many posts that V-6 can beat 2k Celica GTS. I drove the car myself. I know that we will loose!!! Maybe V-6 is not ALL that ? Perhaps we need to start respecting other cars ? I understand the point of "Rice fly-by", but why put down all people who own civics?
My family owned a portion of "rice" cars and a portion of "American" cars. And you know what ? Some of them were so reliable, that i was amazed. We had a Tercel, which never broke down until an asian lady totalled it. We had a Ford Taurus with 250k on him, with all original parts and he never broke down either!
Half of the stories is pure testosterone talking. But is there a point to it ? Some posts ago I read that a guy will never buy a "ricer" - he wants pure American muscle!!! Do we think about gas, the looks of the car or the technology? Honestly, if I had the money, I would pick a new Z or an M3 or M5. Why , you ask? Because the are more superior to the Camaros. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my baby. Well....I love my gf more, but she still IS my baby. Look at the interior of our cars! The shape is very good looking, but inside...needs to be improved. I don't know where I am going with this, I guess I, we, you, need to open our eyes and see what's up!

Now the Questions part:
- If we are so "mighty", then why an SI, with stock bones, can almost hang with us ????
- Can you imagine if Japan would produce a Civic with slightly modded engine (v-4) ? Where will we stand ????
- How much money do you have to put into Supra and Camaro in order for camaro to beat it ?
- Why do you think some cars are not introduced to America?

I dont care bout all that hoopla you just wrote about, but either that was a nicely modded civic, or you are in need of a major tuneup. Thats if you are talking about a v8 powered 4th Gen.

By the way, they are not v-4's, they are In-Line 4 if I am not mistaken......

Civic SI is good competetion for 3800 powered 4th gen, up to the driver there.....

Considering an m3 is dead after 50k miles and the evo will need a new clutch after you hot rod it, we really care about your visions of rice. How much money will it take to beat a supra? none you tard. Supras have potential like any car but stock they are on par with an ls1. I have yet to have a WRX give me a run worth wasting my gas on because launching them is hard as hell. Keep in mind a WRX is running close to it's max potential from the factory, while an ls1 is a slouch compared to what it is capable of. PS your gay, go away.

of course i think rice is pretty lame...ur bashin the guy pretty hard though. anyway.....sounds like his Z is pretty slow. i'll be ashamed the day i lose to a ricer.

Z28, lol this guy drives a v6 camaro. I respect v6 camaro's but come on put any stock si against a z28 and it will be smoked. btw, get over your loss. A bone stock has never even come cloes to keeping up with me ! I outran a supercharged civic si fairly easy . None of this is " pure testosterone talking " Its just the facts ! Sorry Bout the race though :cool: If i was you i'd get a rematch

A supra turbo only runs a 13.8-13.7 Some wont even run that ! I have seen some that wouldnt break 14.1 . I guarentee my LT1 w/some sticky tires would hand him his ass , I dont even want to think about the whoopin a LS1 would give it , or yeah i would . Do you even drive a camaro ?

I like my camaro but I've seen bone stock looking and sounding civics run 11 second quarter miles. The reason for this is that all the hardcore honda tuners out there will do engine swaps. Besides, this guy was driving a v-6 camaro. Yes his car will be spanked by a nice decked out civic. Hate to break it to you guys but some of those *** cars will hand us our ass in a neat tidy package BEFORE mods.

So before you make an ass out of yourselves try doing a little bit more research and real world testing before you start preaching to some guy because he's challenging your concept of what our camaros are capable of. I mean hell, if you get spanked take it like a man(or woman if thats what you happen to be) and get over it. We all make mistakes.

Not stock anyway , Alhtough I did have a VR6 beat me at the track , he 10 grand in the motor though , and didnt beat me bye much . So you do the research ! What kinda of camaro do you have anyway ? an LT1 or LS1 ? W/as little confidence as uyou have , sounds like you got a 80's 305 F-bod or a v6 . face it LT1's LS1's are the best bang for the buck. any ricer that can beat it stock (virtually none) are 2-3 times more expenssive

Hell you even gotta throw the Vette and 03 Cobra in there with bang for the buck. All of these American made muscle cars will whoop that ass for under $40,000 bone stock.

I knew a kid once that begged his mom to get him a VR4 3000gt because everyone talked it up. The sales people really seen him coming and charged him $42,000 for this thing.
He took it to the track and in the 1/8th mile he ran 9.20s consistant.
Im pretty sure I woulda took the 03 Cobra, Vette, LS1, LT1, hell even my bone stock 01 GT ran 9.00s in the 1/8th.

Imports can be made fast with alot of money.
I would prefer having a good starting point then making an American V8 silly fast with alot of money :D

I would like to clarify some things that were not clear.
1. I drive v-6 and I never said I drive a v-8. (some people asked what a v4 is...I am speechless)
2. I am not gay, LOL.
3. A lot of people on this board can not uphold a normal and civilized topic without getting aggressive. That saddens me.
4. All my observations and comments are based only on MY life experience and observation. I live in Cali, close to SF. IF you want to f..k around with SF's honda's, well....be my guest. After all, SF might open your eyes on life.
5. No, I am not a troll. (Whatever that means) I am a human being like the rest of you. My post was not ment to provoke an attack or major flame.
6. I am Russian, so if my grammar is not perfect:

This is the dumbest thread in a long time! It is I4 as in inline four! V4s come in some outboard motors for boats, some motorcycles, etc. Some four cylinder cars are fast as hell when modded. Some idiots that own slow 4 banger cars think they are bad azz and it is fun smaking them down. These last two reasons are why people like to brag about beating 4 cylinders with a V8.

man i know a guy w/ a new celica with exhaust. he ran 17.2 up here. im pretty damn sure that a 3800II (<--- if u even know what that is) is capable of running quicker than that.

Not so, I have an '04 WRX wagon and there is a lot of potential left in it. You put on headers (adds about 30-40 hp), a boost controller(set at 16 psi), a decent turbo back exhaust, and it makes a lot more power. So, you are wrong, there is a lot left in those boxer engines. But, I agree with you, there are probably not too many WRX's that are a match for a well tuned Camaro (coming from an F-bod owner).

You can make a V6 fast....... you can make a four cylinder fast. However, you have basically a stock V6, it's a base model, and it's not meant to be fast. If you want it to be fast, then you need to do some work to it. If you put about a 75 shot on there I can garauntee you'll wipe the road with most 4 cylinders that you come across.

So you are saying add headers ONLY (not K&N, not cat back, not up pipe, not down pipe, not boost controller, etc) to a bone stock WRX and you get 30-40 horsepower? I seriously doubt it. Prove it.

1. My friend has an 00 Firebird v6, she annihilated my buds 00 celica GTS

2. No V6's aren't all that. thats why there are V8's.

3. Yes you should respect all other cars, except fords.

Swap or not, we only increase displacement by 0.2-0.3 liters.......(1.5 -> 1.8 liter) so its not like all of a sudden its a class of its own

30-40 hp is a lot, but it's not unbelievable. It's a turbo car. They react to mods (especially exhaust mods) much differently than a N/A car.

wondering, why aren't there more turbo'ed mustangs or z's then?

most of the supercharged stags i've seen are slow (low 12s) but a couple of the na ones in my area are 10s no spray lol

Yes, thats exactly what it means. thats a 20% increase in displacement. If we increased our 350ci engines by 20% that would be 420ci.. .Doesn't that seem like a big deal to you? You guys do the same stuff we do, but your cars weigh half as much so everything is on a smaller scale...

Well, the stangs that are s/c probly have nothing in the suspension department. I know a guy 10min away with a cheap setup(when he was stock spraying and hitting 12.1's ) .
We are at 700elevation, so screw the: my time corrected for elevation bs..........anyway.

Oh yea, he was only sprayin 100shot, with the right suspension i think some of those s/c stang's around you could hit 11's easy, or with a good driver..............not commenting on what a LS1 could do................eek :eek:

want to go fast... only thing it takes is $... pure and simple... you want your 3800 to move??? toss $ into gofast parts... don't put a big wing on it, don't put a body kit on it, don't put stickers on it, don't put 20" rims on it, don't put a super stiff springs and shocks on it (unless you like autocross), in otherwords don't "rice" it out... put a super charger or a turbo on the engine, or better yet get a junkyard LS1 motor, tranny, wire loom and START from there... good luck... and don't let people get you down about not speaking english very well, you're doing just fine...

Why would we assume that? You're putting in a completely different engine with different heads/cam/compression, not just stroking it. And like was said, it would be around 20%

I ended up going over the patullo bridge so fast to prove a point that I dint let up like others would and my vehicle ended up skipping three lanes going into the curve on this bridge.....

I will prove it any day any time......

(I assume that because it was already lowered and with a modified exaust.) Seems like it is all about perspective and the attitude of a person who reports a story. For crying out loud, I tried to race a sport bike with 3 people in my car. The guy just vanished, but we both had fun.

Bro, I don't know what exactly you proved! I am sure that a 98 Prelude will smoke a v6 on a freeway for numerous reasons. The top on on the car is higher then ours. They can go faster then 118. The fact that you got into a dangerous position tells me that the other driver probably was older and more careful. (or just more careful) I do not want to get into an argument here, because I never raced a prelude and I have no real time experience with such car. I am not calling you a lier, but I am not convinced.

I tried running my car on a track at its hardest and speed was read higher than 118 and was still increasing easily but slowly......(not in the 1/4, god no)

Secondly I did beat him and believe me it was worth it to prove to the world it can be done.......

My molding was done on my heads when the gaskets were changed.....Then they were polished and the valves were replaced with titanium 1/16 inch larger......I was formally a turbine engine mechanic for the U.S armed forces on the huey and cobra choppers......I made several modifications and began to learn how to mix fuel and air better for more combustion at the firing point......All vehicle engines are flawed in these manners to a small degree but the proper flow can be done by molding and polishing some of the parts that actually came with your vehicle......No need to purchase high performance parts if you just want to do a minor power increase.......No need to send your parts off.......This method costs only your time and a few new gaskets.....

Knowledge is power........Did you know that the patents are in effect for ceramic gaskets.......

You lined up on the light. The prelude is on the outside, you are on the inside. Bam, the light turns green and you step on the gas. You hang tight, perhaps you got a better start and are infront. Now there is a turn...It is closer and closer and closer...

You don't want to give up, so you keep your gas to the maximum. The honda is about to overtake you, but there is a turn ahead. Knowing that you skipped 3 lanes OUT, not IN, tells me that the driver let you through. If he/she wouldn't have slowed down, your right side would have smashed into him, putting you and you WIFE into a spin and ,probably, hurting you and your WIFE if not flipping the .... out of the car.

Been there. Once I did that and I felt very stupid afterwards.

p.s. It is a joke, but may be you need to buy yorself a confederate flag for the car? What do u think ?

Been through it........I have family that live outside charleston WV.......I like the drive so I always drive through kentucky to WV......Right by the kentucky derby grounds in I think lexington.....Might be frankfort......

Well good luck.......Keep an eye out on Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.......That will be next years engine testing grounds for a period of 2 weeks.........Watch the paper.....

I never said you didn't beat that Prelude. Maybe you raced a one armed monkey. Maybe it was an S model. I am just saying you will get owned by a Vtec Prelude driven well.

The ML55 is hardly the same truck. They have different motors. I believe that the ML55 might run 155. You said that your V6 turd would run 159, remember. It won't!!!!!!

How many horsepower did you little polish job add? Maybe 10? So now you have 170 horses? A Prelude Vtec has 190+ and you outweigh it by at least 300 lbs. I don't like Honda much at all and am hardly an advocate for Honda. I am just stating facts that you can't handle.

You are a real smart guy. Risking your life, your wifes, and other people on the road to beat a one armed monkey driving a base prelude. :mad:

I do my work a different way.....But Nothing I did was serious performance;)

ML55 has the same body,same chassis, same suspension, same weight(give or take 300 lbs)same transfer and the only difference was the modified engine.......

We are not getting anywhere on this.....I would rather end this post because I can go on and on and on and it looks like you can too...

I don't want to keep this going forever either. So I will stick with facts only.

Fact: stock vtec prelude will run low 15s at 93 ish or better with a good driver. If you can run faster than that with your car then you will win.

Fact: that V6 stock SUV will not go 159 mph on level ground with no tail wind.
