zuluman13 10-25-2003, 10:53 PM What is a good component set ive heard focals were good but which ones. Im going to have the midrange in the stock speaker location and the twweters in custom pods where that triangle piece by the mirrors are. Should i put any speakers in the back seat spots and which ones midbass midrange coaxiles? Any help btw im puttin two e15a's in the back wellso so the front speakers need to be good enough to not get drowned out and have very good sq. Also when you reccomend speakers tell me how powerfull of an amp i need. Thanx
CrAkD X 95TA 10-25-2003, 11:24 PM get the MB quart 6.5" component Q Series there 90w rms and like 170 peak
firebirdude 10-26-2003, 12:31 PM You are going to need a good component set and POWER to keep up with dual 15a's. How much money you looking to spend? I'd go with the Focal 165K2's and give them ATLEAST 100WRMS. Bump up to 125WRMS if you can. For the rear, go with a simple mid range or midbass. I recommend the Adire Audio Koda. ($160/pair) Thought about which amp you will be using? I'm gonna recommend the Autotek Stealth series. The XS1500 for the subs and the XS900 for your components. Note that xs1500 outputs max power at 1 ohm. Using the 15a, you'll want two sub amps! You'll probably be over 150db with a setup like that.
zuluman13 10-26-2003, 12:38 PM Im going to use the avionixx 1800.1 for the subs. Also im always confused by this for component speakers when the say the rms wattage is for each speaker or for the pair.
firebirdude 10-26-2003, 12:44 PM Each speaker.
zuluman13 10-26-2003, 09:34 PM whats the rms ratings for the kodas i cant find it anywhere
firebirdude 10-27-2003, 12:00 AM 100WRMS for the component set or 75WRMS for just the midbass.
Ted J 10-27-2003, 12:41 PM Whatever you do, don't put Focal's component set in your car if you plan on using the mirror location for the tweeter that you speak of.
The Focal component set was designed with having the midrange/midbass driver in the door and the tweeter up in the A Pillar.
I had some Focal 165K's in my doors and put the tweeters up in the doors up by the mirrors like you speak of. Man those TN45 tweeters were HARSH. I talked to the Marketing rep guy from Focal at the IASCA finals and he told me that their component sets are designed to be used like I stated above, speaker in the door and the tweeter up in the A Pilliar.
zuluman13 10-27-2003, 03:15 PM how did you mount yours in the a pillar isnt it at about the same spot or do u mean at the top of the a pillar.
firebirdude 10-27-2003, 03:26 PM How's this? (http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/6/web/342000-342999/342548_4_full.jpg) :D
zuluman13 10-27-2003, 03:29 PM thats the pod that I was planning on getting will that sound good or not

The Focal's component set won't sound good there, at least they weren't designed to go there. They were designed to go on the A Pilliar up in the dash area pointing at the windshield and or at each other. If I can find a pic of what I'm talking about later I'll give you the link.
Ted J 10-27-2003, 03:54 PM Kind of like in this pic exept those are the Focal TLR's and some of the people will put them more so on the side of the windshield and have them aimed differently:

zuluman13 10-27-2003, 04:45 PM do you have any better pictures that have them angled for the best sound. How did you find this out just by talking to focal?

Ahh, I'll see what other pics I can find. Really, the best bet would probably be to use double stick tape and move them around up there until you find a good spot for them. Like I said before, I've seen them more so up on the front side of the a pilliar pointing sort of at the windshield but the places I've seen the pics at before I can't find at the moment. If you made a post and titled it "A pillar tweeter locations" I'd bet you get some ideas from that.
When I was at the IASCA finals I spoke with a guy named Larry who is like Directing of Marketing or something like that for Focal. He was the one who informed me that their component sets were designed in that way.
ImportKILLER 10-29-2003, 09:26 PM What can I do...that spot is where the knob is to adjust the side mirror.
I don't know if I want to drill into the A pillar.

Well, try spots that you would like to mount the tweeter by using double stick tape and moving them around until you like the way they sound. That's one thing you could do. You could also try putting the tweeters down by the midrange driver but that all depends on where the midrange driver is at and the car you are putting it in I guess.
zuluman13 11-05-2003, 04:12 PM Is there anothyer midbass thats a little better thab than the koda 6 maybe one that can handle 110 rms because that way i can use 1 amp for the focals and midbass which would be alot easier and cheaper.

I'm impressed with Image Dynamic's midbass driver:

I don't know how it compares to the koda 6 but between the two I'd choose the Image Dynamic's speaker over it. Plus, you can get it in a 4 or 2 ohm driver which is nice also.
HTH!
