Killed a Bike Tonight

I'm on my way home from work and this bike turns from a side road to get behind me in the flow of traffic. I think nothing of it, but he's following close and I couldn't pass the other traffic. So as soon as we get to the area where this road goes from 1 to 2 lanes, I'm in the left lane, this other car is in the right, and this guy on the bike gets right in between us, so I'm like WTF is this guy doing? He gave me the impression he was going to cut in between us and take off, but I didn't want him to hit my car in the process (he was very close).

When the light turned green I took off a little quick, he passed the car on my right and then I knew it was on. I punched a little hard and took off and all I heard is zzzzzzzzzzzzooooooooom-zzzzzzzzzzzzzoooooooooooom-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzoooooom.... So i hit it harder and pull away from this guy when he was right at my tail. Next thing I knew I was going 90 so I killed it and he flew right by and took off into the night. I thought sport bikes were faster than that, and he was definitely going for it because he was revving the hell out of his bike, it was LOUD. Maybe this guy was learning how to ride his bike, but a kill is a kill.

Everytime I see one of those things, they always do massive wheelies along side of my car. Last time one tried and it looked like he was going to fall over backwards and become roadkill! Most sport bikes are VERY fast. Either way, nice kill!

Was it a 250 ninja?;)

I'm not sure what kind of bike it was, but it was a late model Japanese-looking bike with two round headlights.

something was wrong with the bike or the driver....unless ur going 10s u shouldnt be able to even run with a sportbike....

1000cc bikes can go 9s.

i'm seeing kan-tuna 600... or did the guy look like he weighed 400lbs? scrawny guys really make a bike faster(i'm not skinny)... 600 tuna's run 14's (older and stock ones)...

Dunno where you grew up sweetheart, but back in the day i knew a fella that could bust the 'crotch rockets' light to light in his Nova..............back in the 80's anyway...............;)
I'm sure he could do the same today.

Motorcycles have come leaps and bounds since even the late 80's technology. They are hundreds of pounds light and making more power than ever. Hell, Yamaha is claiming their 04 R1 will make just over 180 bhp (roughly high 150's to low 160's at the wheel) and tip the scales at just under 370 lbs. Nothing in the 1980's came even close to that. Launching that much power and keeping it down is a chore but if you can...bye bye anything but a 9 second car on slicks.

For a car to beat a bike is cool but at the track I go to is rare but happens. My bros bike is a ZX600R Ninja and his first run for the night after we just put it back together was 11.9 at 116mph with out the carbs dialed in. We hope for low 10s with head work and extended swing-arm.

This isn't necessarily true. Some newer 600s are trapping 114-118. I have seen guys run high 12s @ 114 and mid 11s @ 118 on the same bike. Just like cars, it depends on the rider. Once you're on the highway, it's a different story. My buddy used to run right with, and pull on some, newer 600s on the highway - his car trapped 113. I haven't had the same luck with bikes...I always pick on the wrong ones hehe.

CCs don't mean sh*t. Its like cars. You have seen plenty of small blocks run away from big blocks right. It's what kind of bike and engine. A new suzuki katana 600 will run like 13.0s. A suzuki gsxr 600 will run 10s. People need to learn the diffrence between a supersport bike and a SPORT TOURER. The katana basically has a downgraded gsx-r engine(lower compression, mild cams, ect.) OF COURSE ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL A 1000cc will walk a 600. Of course I have seen 600s beat hayabusas. The rider is everything on a bike.

Well that must be that thin desert air because any of the new (03) 600cc supersport bikes are more than capable of trapping in the 120's at sea level with just a slightly above average riders. I think the Kawasaki 636 is the current stock HP king and it can be trapped right around the 128 mark with a very good rider in stock form. Throw a sprocket on it, lower it, and maybe an extra link or two in the chain to slide things back and bit and you are looking at 130 something, again with a very good rider.

This may be true. The air here does suck, but most people don't want to believe how bad it can be. I have seen countless R6s trap 115-118 mph out here. Whether that's what they run in better air, I can't attest to.

Well a new ninja 250 only runs a 14.6 at 88 mph. Ive been researching because i want to buy one. My 96 Z ran a 14.1, by no means fast for a Z but still beats the ninja. All bikes are different.

As a fellow board member, do not buy the 250 unless it is for your gf, or wife. Even if it is your first bike, you should get something you can grow into. Kawasaki still makes a "ZX-6" not a "ZX-6R" or RR, but just a ZX-6. Perfect for you to start on...

Exactly, people used to laugh when I had my 2001 Suzuki Bandit 1200. They also laughed when I asked them if they wanted to race...especially some 600's. They stopped laughing when I literally beat them by buslengths....I had full exhaust in it, and stage 2 jet kit...thats all. I ran consistent 10.7's @ 130, with one 10.6, and one 132 trap speed.....Sport Tourer that will scare you ;) I miss it though, too bad I got my ass ran over on it....

yea...bikes are fast as hell..unless that rider has no idea what he's doin, there's no way you should have beat him if he's on a newer sport bike. I witnessed my freind take a bone stock 03 R6, with a MT rear tire..and run a 10.7 @129 mph...

I've hung with bikes before. It's usually ricers who think any bike is a fast bike, and go out and buy a 300cc or something bike.Usually it's from a roll i leave them behind though. Some of these guys can't even do a wheelie that's how weak the bikes are,or the drivers unexperianced.I've gotten my ass kicked way too many times by real bikes though. It's not even a race rally if the bike is any good.

BTW.You guys seen the video of a 500 pund hayabusa with a turbocharger making 499hp?Crank i think, but still crazy. The guy jumps from 120-180mph in seconds.:D

Have you seen that video of the busa doin like 220MPH..its sick! 140mph and the front wheel is still in the air. We might be talkin about the same video! i'm not sure..there's a couple of them out there..sick..

Yeah that's probably the one.I have 2 or 3 of them somewhere in my collection. But i'm sure there's more. The bike used to be weaker i think, then they bumped it up to 499hp.Could be even more now.Kudos to the driver though.Driving that fast is insane.

The only way to get a true idea of how fast a bike is would be to race it from a role. Without a wheelie bar on the back you can't yank a big bore bike out of the hole. I just got rid of a 02 CBR 954 and I hated to drag race the thing. Any guy can twist the throttle and go but it was real hard to find someone that would go drag a knee with me at 130 mph. I will always have a love for a motor on two wheels. Bikes rock and if you out run one I bet your car is not a every day driver. And remember they have NOS kits for bikes too. LOL!

wow... i started on a vtr250 honda (honda's ninja 250), i had it for a year, took 150bucks of depreciation when i traded it in on my "new/used" bike (gone for 3 years now) a vfr750f (sport tour) aka interceptor... a 250 sport bike is a great way to learn or in my case relearn how to corner, and just ride... i'd never buy a new 250 ninja, as they are small and once you get how to ride a bike, then a 600 cc or bigger bike WILL be wanted...

Do you people hang on everyword..lol..and did you call me a noob..lol. I'm not talking about big liter standards and sport tourers. A hayabusa and zx-11 or 12 are classified as sport toures sometimes, but to me they are full on sport bikes. I was talking about katanas and such. Sporty looking bikes that are not very fast. I know bandit 1200s are in the 10s,but they still will get beat by a gixxer 750. Take that 1200cc bandit and compare it to a 1200cc zx-12 ninja and see what happens. I'm not taking away from the bandit or others. They are cool bikes that are built for diffrent purposes.(far more comfortable). I'm just talking about people clumping all sporty looking bikes into the same category. You are comparing apples to oranges. Also I don't know what a noob is unless you are talking about newbie. Well I am not claiming to be Matt Madlin or Nicky Hayden...but I have been racing bikes since I was 5 years old...and have worked at a bike shop as tech and motorcycle mechanic...so I think I know more than the average joe..:p

P.S. - I used to race a turbocharged hayabusa and even though it wasn't making 400 plus horses like the one you guys are talking about...I CAN say that it was the scariest thing I've ever experienced....you get to that point in speed where it's not really fun anymore....just scares the **** out of ya..lol

i don't care if you were racing while you were in your mother's womb, if you don't say what you mean then you will never mean what you say. i can only go by what you type here. forgive me if i've failed as a clairvoyant. how am i supposed to know what you meant if you can't express it?

oh, and if you have been racing for so long, then surely you remember in the late '80s/early '90s when the suzuki katana 600 was the SPORTBIKE that suzuki campaigned in ama supersport until the 1992 season when the gsx-r600 came out. actually, iirc, doug polen won the ama title on the katana its first year out in '88.

For one thing guy...i was just playin with you about calling me something, and another I didn't take anything you said to heart. You are getting all upset at me for correcting myself when you are the one who was rude to me in the first place over some irrelevent bull****. Another thing is I'm not talking about the bikes from the late 80s and early 90s. I still have 91 gixxer 750 and love it to death, but by todays standards it's a peice of ****. You will never see a katana 750 or 600 in today's AMAs,and the gsxr 750 has been suzuki's racing machine of choice since it's launch in 1985. So what are you argueing anyway. They built the gsxr 600 cuz the katana wasn't cutting the mustard. In my opinion the katana is just a good begineer bike that still has the sport look to it. I think the katana has always been marketed towards people that wanted a cheaper and less aggressive option to the gsxr. Though some of the katana 1100s of the mid 80s were beasts for their day.
