I just bought a 95 z. I'd like to add some horse power. I need to beat a boy. Any suggestion? I was thinking of starting with the exhaust.

If you want horse power, exhaust is a good start. I would also

start on a complete air intake. When I say complete, I mean SLP

cold air intake, Z06 Mass air flow sensor, Throttle body air foil,

and a 52mm Throttle Body. After your intake, I would then invest

in a gear ratio. I have 4.10's and they are awesome! If you need

a speed shop to go to, I suggest LS1Speed in schaumburg, talk to

Larry he's cool. If you need anymore advise please feel free to

ask! Good luck!

Personally I go to Legend Racing in Schaumburg, the guy there Doug does awesome work. He just put an LT1 to 11.80's with the stock fuel system, just new injectors on the stock tune, now that's good, he can get u basically anything too. His # is (847)923-8979 tell him that S.K. recommended u!

No offense intended however the stock maf and throttle body aren't restictive until about 450hp, so I wouldn't do those mods first. Here's a list in order of what I'd do
1:Cold air induction, cat back exhaust(doesn't really what order you do the first two)
2:Headers
3:Torque converter, shift kit, trans cooler,
4:You'll need nittos once you're finished with 3 :D
5:If you have the 2.73 gear upgrade them to 3.42s, if you have the 3.23s don't worry about upgrading
If your motor is in good shape with a good 60 foot time you'll be a low 13 or 13 flat car, plenty of people have actually pulled off high 12s with the above listed mods.

ok, here is what i would do and in this order.

1. Cold air induction CAI
2. Catback exhaust system or simply a cutout if money is tight
3. 3.73 gears if auto 4.10 gears if you have a 6 speed
4. longtube headers with off road y pipe if emissions arent a concern.
5. some sticky tires so you can hook up
6. camshaft
7. torque converter if you have an auto
8.heads

also you can do some free/cheap mods like the throttle body bypass, get a 160* thermostat, fan switch mod

I wouldnt bother with a airfoil or maf at all and dont get a bigger throttle body until you get into the cam and heads.

BTW: i didnt list any suspension stuff which will also help you out but wont add horsepower.

One last thing, remove your spare tire and jack and your back seats......its a noticeable difference

Fwiw you don't want to put a cam in on a stock torque converter, almost all the aftermarket cam out there net a reduction in lowend torque therefore a a higher stall is needed to get the car into it's powerband

For those who think that the stock Mass Air is not restrictive, just

look at it! From my own experience I gained at least 15HP

from a Z06 Mass Air. With the Throttle Body, will gain another

15HP. An air foil, 6-8HP. I don't know about anyone else but I'll

take any amount of horse power I can get, no matter how small

the mod is!! It all adds up in the end.

Do you have dyno graphs to prove this or are these just sotp guesses.

There are dyno graphs that I have came across. I pretty much

went by what my speed shop guy told me, I also felt a big

difference after I got my car back. What do you think??

For the price of the Z06 MAF and the throttle body you could almost afford the SLP lvl 1 suspension kit. I would rather have the suspension kit.

Suspension doesn't add horse power!!

jd94z28

But, it can improve your times. Also, the springs will give the car a more agressive stance.

I agree with you 100%. Suspension does great thing for your

track times; 60', ET etc. However this post is about horse power!

True his request was for more power, but he also said "I need to beat a boy". Since he said he was new f-bodies it is important to mention that there is more than just power that can get you down the road faster.

I think the he you are refering to is actually a she. Suspension will

definatley help her, I was just answering her question about

horsepower, and the easiest, cheapest, way to get it.

If we are only talking power and not other time improvements, I would go with
1)CAI
2)Exhaust or cut-out
3)Headers
for the first 1500 or less spent.

Dont waste your money, get some slicks, 150 shot of spray, hal fronts and a 3500 stall. You should run low 13's on motor and high 11's on spray all day. dont waste your money on cold air, air foils, blah blah and all that crap

For those who have alot of money and can buy heads, a new trans, rear end, then yea do that. Hopefully you can get better times than low 13's. But for those who what horsepower that is cheap then all the little mods "crap" make a big difference. Especially for those who are going "all motor" rather than just putting spray in your car. Thats just too easy for me!

No need to spend money if your car is already faster than his. It depends what he drives, and how he drives it. A baseball bat can also come in handy for beating boys, should you need to stoop to that level. :D

not trying to be rude, hozb817 but those horse power ratings for those mods is kinda far fetched. I have never seen a dyno with numbers anywher near those for TB and air foil. maybe 1-5 hp if your lucky. just my two cents
