Seems like a simple task, but I was wondering if anyone know where there may be some instructions on how to install a new thermostat.
Thanks

yea, a chiltons should have it.

if I remember correctly, just drain the radiator untill you don't hear any liquid when you squeeze the radiator hose (the one that goes to the thermostat, located on the front top side of the engine). then just unbolt the thermostat cover, take out the old one, pop in the new one. bolt the cover back on, and fill the radiator up again.

it's been a long while sence I did that (on a 97 GMC Sierra), but I think they are all the same.

i didnt drain my radiator, and barely any coolant leaked out... just enough to be soaked up in a rag.... and i also used a gasket when putting the thermostat in... just to be safe you know ;)

Chiltons (new one)(part number 8260)
Page 3-32
1. Drain the cooling system to below the thermostat level.
2. It is not Neccessary to remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
3.Remove the two retaining bolts from the thermostat housing & remove the thermostat.
4 Use a new gasket when replacing the thermostat.
5 fill & bleed the cooling system.

**CAUTION**
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats & dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, & are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered cantainer or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable cantainer. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

Thanks cowgirl, that's what I was looking for. Sounds simple enough :)

As everyone said go out & buy yourself a Chiltons. They are really helpfull.
Also go out & get a electrical Diagnosis Service manual supplement (this one you would have to buy off of ebay or at a swapmeet.) They give you the complete Diagram for your car.

I did this yesterday. I removed the throttle body (I have a TPI car) so I could get to one of the bolts.

Hardest part was scraping the old gasket off the thermostat housing.

Heat is nice :D
