Headers92_RS_305 10-23-2003, 11:06 AM Which brand of headers are the loudest but have the best horsepower for the money???? formularpm 10-23-2003, 04:26 PM This is for a 305, right? My suggestion would be Hooker SuperComp shorties, they are under $400 and are probably one of the best 1 5/8 headers out there. I doubt different brands of headers have any bearing on the loudness of the exhaust, that is more a function of the exhaust after the header. KagA152 10-23-2003, 05:11 PM i dropped .5 off my 1/4 mile time when i put my hedman shortys on. make sure to get them coated as it will help performance and keep them nice looking. mine happen to be for sale by the way;) Z28James 10-23-2003, 05:17 PM There is alot of difference in the sound. My current 87 Z28 LG4 has headers and with the cutout open it sounds alot different from when i had just a cat/stock exaust manifolds on my 88 IROC-Z L98. The L98 sounded like an old beat up pickup truck, my car now...ive had tons of people come upto me and say my car sounds really good ;) I guess the headers sort of cleans up the sound. formularpm 10-23-2003, 05:28 PM There is alot of difference in the sound. KagA152 10-23-2003, 07:20 PM Id like to sell my whole complete exhaust. Jet-Hot coated Hedman shorties+y-pipe, summit cut-out(when you wanna be loud) and slp 2OTL cat-back. I would like to get $700 for everything, but im open to offers. Im located in northern Illinois, send me your zip code and ill get a shipping quote KnightRider350 10-23-2003, 07:55 PM http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2437836903&category=33613 What do you guys think of that? 1 5/8ths, ceramic coated, 3" outlets. The Hedman shorties, ceramic coated, were $300...these are $130. Seemed like a good deal. They look considerably different though, maybe not flow as better? What do you guys think? KagA152 10-23-2003, 08:51 PM those wont fit a fbody, and i bet that coating flakes off after a couple thousand miles KnightRider350 10-23-2003, 09:48 PM Damnit... Hrmmm, well I don't have the money to spend $300 on ceramic coated hedman's... How much of a difference is the ceramic coating? Why won't they fit an F-body? KagA152 10-23-2003, 10:29 PM the collectors are in the middle, so they would be prolly where the cross member is on our cars http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/attachment.php?s=&postid=1402941 those are my headers, they angle towards the back of the engine where they hook up to the y pipe the ceramic coating isnt a must, but itll keep em looking alot nicer, cause they get rusty. they also lower under hood temps because more heat stays inside the tube KnightRider350 10-23-2003, 10:32 PM Just wondering if its worth the $200 on an econo build up? Is there anyway, for the mean time, that I could attach my existing Y-pipe and catback to the headers? I don't have the money to get the headers on there, as well as custom build a 3" pipe back. So, would be nice if I could just hook that up for the time being, even if it does have less performance. Thanks for all the help/advice. :) KagA152 10-23-2003, 10:35 PM youll have to get an aftermarket y-pipe to work with the headers. otherwise you can reuse everything after that. do you live in an area that has smog tests? if so, youll have to get headers with air tubes and a cat too=$$$ lordmetalz28 10-23-2003, 10:41 PM kaga you selling just headers and y pipe ill buy those right up off ya 92_RS_305 10-23-2003, 10:43 PM Originally posted by KagA152 Id like to sell my whole complete exhaust. The headers will bolt right up to any SBC head. I did have to get a set of plug wires with 90* boots to fit under the headers. 2OTL is 2 On the left Here (http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/5/web/245000-245999/245503_142_full.jpg) is a pic of the tips.
