is Loudmouth TOO loud?

Im just nailing down the first few mods to my 2000Z28 (M6). And a cat back is right up there. I want something with a nice sound, preferably something which lets people know you have a V8, and Ive been reading around a lot. I hear that almost every cat back, from magnaflow to hooker is quiet at idle, and opens up at WOT, but I want something with a nice rumble at idle. So Ive been eyeing the loudmouth. But I also see a lot of posts of people removing them from their cars because they are too loud....
Any thoughts/comments?

Not expecting to get it, I put the Loudmouth on a x-mas list but then had second thoughts after reading some of the posts here about it being too loud. Turns out I did get it and I love it. I'm not crazy about the tips, but I love the sound.

So, I guess my best advice is to not let what someone else says persuade you. This is a very subjective topic and only you can decide what you like. You will find a lot of people here that believe that it is too loud and a lot of people that like it.

I can say that I don't think I would like it any louder than it is. And I can believe those that say Loudmouth + headers = too loud and raspy. So if you are considering headers at some point, you may want to look at alternatives to the LM. But you could still go with a LM and add a bullet muffler later.

the loudmouth is loud but with headers is just too much if you ever plan on headers don't get the loudmouth. also if you get the loudmouth you might want to look into switching the muffler cause it resonates in the car but if it doesn't bother you then no big deal.

Guess I should also clarify....my car is pretty damn close to bone stock, and headers arent in the plans for the near future:)

It's so funny because I was in the same spot as you about 3 weeks ago. I was bone stock, wanted something to get attention etc.... Well I ordered the loudmouth and I loved it. It rumbles nice at idle, and when you rev it's awesome. Of course there is more cabin noise, but you are still able to talk on phone without screaming and listen to music. The only time that I wish i maybe didnt have it on is when I just wake up in the mourning and go off to school. All in all, it is a good deal for the price.

IMO the loudmouth is kind of loud. If you run it with the ORP it's horrible after 2300RPM's. otherwise it is decent sounding, You get a lot of exhaust gas pulsing which causes it to sound "raspy"

That is absolutely true! :thumb: Very subjective topic indeed.

You just have to hear it yourself before you can make up your mind. ;)

For my daily driver, the loudmouth is too loud. Therefore I have a Flowmaster muffler and a cutout w/electric plate. ;)

Consider this: Get a nice sounding muffler and then put a cutout w/electric plate and there you have it! Best of both worlds and you can adjust the sound level to your liking with just a flip of a switch.

And will cost you less than a Loudmouth. ;)

Later! ;)

He was doing the LS6 conversion, that thing is going to be a mean motherfricker!! He was showing me some of the differences in the LS1 vs standard 350, I'm glad HE knows what he's doing:confused:

I'm only a chop buster, I'm glad you got a sense of humor:cool: I was going to throw an LS1 in my 94 but a lot of people tell me to just keep the LT1, I so want to do LS6 in it but the new design has me a little nervous about working on it. Great motors, awesome upper rpm potential, but still on the expensive side for upgrades. So is the LT1 and that's a standard small block with just reverse cool heads and a lousy ignition system!!

Keep yer bickering for the New England FOrum.....

;)

Whenever someone asks if this is "too loud" I say that's like asking 10 chef's if something is "too salty"...you'll probably get 10 opinions. MY LT1 was friggin loud as hell, but never loud enoughf ro me.....but if you ask my mom, it was too loud when stock.

To each his own.......

IMHO the loudmouth sounds like crap. Get the GMMG and be done with it

Some people would perfer not to waste another $400 just for a slightly better sound, and even more so considering the GMMG doesn't flow better either. But to each his own.

I'm not sure how much rwhp I've gained with the GMMG, but there is a noticeable difference! I've never dynoed my car, so until then  I would say a good 10-15rwhp. As soon as I create a website for my car, I'll have more GMMG exhaust clips than anyone on the net :metal:

Cmon man, Ive got that combo and the rasp/drone went DOWN when I put on headers with the cats. Believe me this is the catback you want. Hit me up on aim and i can send you some vids of my car at the track with just the LM on. One in car and one from the stands. One 9er Z

Ill agree it may be a little much, once you get a cam but for a stock internal bolton car it still is great. Crusing sound is minimal and havn't been harassed by cops.

I was also worrying about this same thing myself. I was really town between the Corsa and GMMG because i'm planning on long tubes in the future. Then I realized that I won't be getting long tubes in the NEAR future.

I ordered a Loudmouth which I got on sale from http://www.tbyrne.com I also put on the SLP y-pipe that I bought used from my friend. It thankfully does not replace the cats. So I put all my exhaust on one night, and I was very worried it was going to sound like crap. I got all done, turned the key, and I was VERY happy with what I got.

It's loud, but not too loud. At idle, it's perfect, and under acceleration, it screams w/o being obnoxious. I think it'll be too much with the headers, but again, I don't plan on them anytime soon. I would also suggest keeping the cats as well, because that will help with the popping and raspyness.

The only time it pops is in the morning a couple times through the gears, then it goes to normal once everything gets nice and warm. I say go for it.

I got it on an LT1 with the ORP and mac headers, ask MY84z when we were at dyno day last what a loudmouth sounds like with headers, it'll blow your eardrum out and at WOT you can't hear yourself think, some people like that, me when I do my Hooker LT's I will be ditching the loudmouth for a mufflex system which IMo sounds better equally with headers but not without.
