T56 - occasionally jumps out of 2nd

This is a 96 T56 in my 72 Camaro behind a 402 bbc. This has happened only a couple times but I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on maybe why this happens.

Situation: I start off the line fairly normal in 1st, shift to 2nd at around 2800 or so, begin to accelerate in second when the light down the road starts to change. I lift my foot off the gas without pressing down on the clutch, the engine immediatelly starts to slow the car but after about a 1/4 to 1/2 second the trans pops out of gear. In no other situation, so far, has the transmission popped out of gear. I can drive it hard through the gears without a problem, trans downshifts normally through corners, I have no other issues with it - so far.

Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas?

It sounds like the 2nd gear synchros are starting to go. Lovely huh? My current T-10 is doing the same exact thing.

its the synchros I just had my new tranny put in because of this problem. Good luck!

Could someone please explain to me exactly what "jumping out of gear" means? Like does the shifter just go from 2nd and all of a sudden pop into neutral?

Yes. Thats exactly what happens to me but only twice so far and only in the circumstance that I described. Otherwise the transmission has been very good to me.
