iopoco 10-19-2003, 04:26 PM i'm having the hardest time finding the camaro of my dreams. it's nothing big, but i've been looking on recycler.com, ebay.com, etc... and for the life of me, i can't find a 94-95 z28 coupe w/ 6 speed tanny. i think i've only found 2 that i would have considered buying, but other circumstances have come to my attenetion about the sellers, and that basically turned me off on the deal( i don't like shady sellers). anyways, if any1 knows or might know any1 selling a z28, 94-95 or even a 96, w/ a manuel tranny, please, i repeat, PLEASE let me know. i live in the the los angeles area, SOUTHERN CALI. i am willing to pick up the car over 100 miles away. also if it's in other states, and a good price, also willing to arrange other methods of pick up...
p.s. as for conditon it must be running, and as stock as possible...
thanx in advance;

Well, It's an auto. It has been sitting for a month now b/c he bought a Z06 and lost interest in it. Anyway, he hasn't even put it up for sell in the paper yet but he said he will take $5500. He paid $9500 2 years ago. Oh, it's fully loaded. We're by Long Beach.

Don't have a camera. Color is Polo green, Tan Leather, no t-top he holds the title and it's clear. I'll email you his number.
SAM98TAM6 10-20-2003, 02:14 AM Is it a Trans Am GT? The GT was a one year only thing in 94, they have the normal high wing, not the low one. If he doesn't sell it soon, let me know. I'm selling my 2nd car, and will be looking into another F-body within a few weeks or so.
:)
iopoco 10-20-2003, 02:24 AM sam... get yer own thread... ha ha j/k... it's cool we are all a f body family, well i'm soon to be, anyways, still really trying to find a 6 speed, do u have any pro's/con's about auto or 6 speed. From speaking to a lot of auto z28 owners, they have been trying to convince me that their's no noticable speed/acceleration difference between the auto and 6 speed, however i've always been under the impression that 6 speed gives you a slight advantage. j/w
thanx in advance

SAM98TAM6 10-20-2003, 02:31 AM Gene-Be nice to the moderators....
;)
J/K, it really depends on how you will be driving the car. If you have a commute w/ a lot of traffic, and have to drive the car constantly, then an A4 car may be better. Also, if you plan to drag race the car, throwing in a torque converter is a great mod, and automatics tend to be more consistent.
If you are using the car as a weekend/part time driver, then go for the 6 speed. I owned both for a while, my TA was a 6 speed, and my SS was an A4. I drove the SS to work daily, and it was nice not having to shift constantly through traffic. On weekends, or my days off, the TA was the car of choice, blasting through the gears, and heel/toe shifting around corners is a blast, something I enjoy even more now....
:D
iopoco 10-20-2003, 02:37 AM yea, see thats wut i'm torn between. if anything this car will be a half project car, as with any high proformance u keep adding and adding, and half daily driver since i will be getting rid of my truck when i buy a TA or z28. however, the drive to school is about 5-7 miles from home, (yes i am 18 and go to college) and it's not a traffic intensive drive. but in terms of reliablity, such as in repairs, speeds, and such, which one would you think is a better choice, since you've had experience w/ both, and in away putting yerself in my shoes, with a limited budget. 6 speeds from my experience are cheaper in price (i've been looking for close to 4 months for a z28), and cheaper to insure (i'm pretty sure on this as well), and break down less (been told)... damn all the choices !!
-gene
iopoco 10-20-2003, 02:40 AM ohhh and which would u prefer TA or Z28 ?? this might be a personal choice, but i've heard horror stories about TA's...
SAM98TAM6 10-20-2003, 02:43 AM Don't know about insurance now, I owned my '93 Formula 6 speed in Cali back when I was 24, and the transmission didn't make a difference on insurance.
Depending on how you plan to mod the car, both trannys have thier pros and cons. Autos will run for a long time w/ a good hi-po build up, especially by adding a trans fluid cooler.
A 6 speed is easy to blow through clutches, depending on how you drive. I sold my 98 TA with its 3rd clutch in it.
;)
iopoco 10-20-2003, 02:47 AM is their any other method i can contact you by, i have a lot of questions and really don't want to clutter up this thread, that is if you don't mind...

Wild1 10-20-2003, 11:32 AM How much are you lookin' to spend? Autos are great for drag racing, however I love the manuals for the corners. Since I don't drag much, the manual is a fantastic experience. Yes, I do drive in gridlock with the manual and it is fine. You can just keep in in 2nd gear and it is good for 8-30 MPH comfortably so there isn't much shifting. Plus you let off the gas and the engine serves as a brake.
I will only drive manuals as they best suit my purpose.
I've got a 1995 Polo Green Metallic (custom paint with black flake to look very dark and highlight the curves). You should also know it is a 1LE only 106 made and since I'm the original owner, it has just around 10,000 original miles. Not my daily driver. It is garaged and museum quality. You can tell that it isn't going to be a bargain car, but the numbers match. I'll include my sig.
iopoco 10-20-2003, 03:30 PM wild... sounds like an awesome car, i really can't wait until i find the car for me, but i mean, i've been looking for 4 months.. so the time should come soon... ohh it better come soon... lol, but yea, i talked to sam (very helpful guy) last night about both his auto and 6 speed cars, and i think i'm still sticking with a 6 speed, simply because my hearts set on it, i dunno, i just feel it won't feel like a z28 or TA w/o a 6 speed. (personal opinion, please don't flame me for it)
iopoco 10-20-2003, 03:37 PM ohhh, i have about 7 grand to spend, but i really need the car as cheap as possible, since i will be getting the engine stroked... HOPEFULLY...
the only thing thats really killing me is the registration, as you might be aware in california, the registration has tripled, so i'm kind'a trying to hold off until arnold does smething about it, or if i get the car now, hold off on registering it, until it drops (i don't think i can handle just looking at it in my driveway tho)

Wild1 10-20-2003, 04:37 PM Sounds like you need one with a toasted engine since you're going to stroke it anyways. Sometimes you can find theft recoveries where the car was taken for a joyride and the teenagers didn't know how to shift which blew the engine. But you should be able to find something decent for 7k
iopoco 10-20-2003, 04:49 PM wild... easier said then done, would you happen to know any sites i could possibly look for a z28, i know ebay motors, recycler, and autotrader. ebay has amazing deals on z's, but i haven't found one thats local, and shipping would be close to 900 dollars. recycler also has some cars, but that site is very unorganized and confusing to search on, i find myself calling the owners to find out simple things like mileage or condition, it's really becoming a pain. autotrader is a huge site with a lot of cars posted, but they are mostly dealers, and i really don't want to buy this car off a dealership. as for this car, i don't really see it ever having great resale value, i am looking for a great deal, salavge or not, i would prefer a salavage where the frame wasn't damaged in anyway, simply because they aren't worth much with a salavage title. i do have 7 grand to spend, but i don't want to spend that all on a car, some of that money has to go into the 3,500 to get the engine stroked and rebuilt. and as for year, as u might have read in my earliert posts, i can only get a 93-95 LT1, because that won't increase my insurence.

Wild1 10-20-2003, 05:05 PM I've got a buddy who works auctions and picks up cars. He gets good deals but charges a small commission. If your serious, and it sounds like you are... I'll call him and ask him to scout.
1993-1995 Z28 Manual
Mileage shouldn't matter since your building the engine again anyways right? The Borg-Warner T56 Manual is a tough tranmission and shouldn't wear much with proper Dextron III fluid changes.
Confirm you want me to make the call and I'll get this moving for you. Auctions work by bidding and paying money at the time of transaction. So, if he gets a car for you, you'll have to have the money very handy. If you pull out after he paid for the car he becomes one unhappy camper since he is out the dough. He's a great guy and really comes through.
iopoco 10-20-2003, 05:13 PM wild... can u ask him to scout how much they are going for, since i'm trying to budget my money wisely, can he maybe give you an estimate on how much theyroughly go for... since i don't want to any bad relations, and commit before i really know what i'm getting into, i've always tried to aviod auctions, but can u please ask him how much they run for on auctions. because as i said, if it's a really grea deal, i won't pass it up.

Wild1 10-20-2003, 05:24 PM I'll ask today... I'm in Chicago on business so I'll get you an answer before the week is up.
iopoco 10-20-2003, 05:27 PM wild, no problem, i have plenty of time, no hurry...
also a more direct way to get a hold of me is through e mail: angelkiller4life@aol.com

Wild1 10-20-2003, 05:57 PM I just made the call... today, he just picked up a 1995 Red w/ Black top Z28, chrome rims, perfect body, but it's and automatic. The automatic is slipping and works fine but not perfect. (He knows I'm a perfectionist and doesn't try to pull stuff past me... like I said he's a good guy if you take care of him)
$4300
Look around to see what Auto to Manual conversions are available (Search the LT1 section).
Just an option... If the trans was perfect then he would up the price $1000 - $1200. Which should give you a ballpark of what to expect at auctions.
Let me know how you want me to proceed.
