Fred94LT1 10-18-2003, 09:06 PM Guys/Gals,
I had two runs at the track today. The ET kinda sucked but the MPH wasn't too bad. Do you think if I add MSD 8.5 wires a set of NGK TR 55 plugs and a cutout I will trap 110 mph? I'm installing them this coming week. I hit the rev limiter today between shifts but wasn't too pissed with the MPH,
First run:
60' 2.180
330' 5.911
1/8 8.891
mpg 83.72
990 11.343
1/4 13.509
mph 108.25
2nd run:
60' 2.040
330' 5.752
1/8 8.713
mph 83.65
990' 11.155
1/4 13.313
mph 108.59
I left Atco N.J. after that run as there was way too many jr dragster cars. So what do you think guys?
DS01Z28 10-18-2003, 09:15 PM Couldn't hurt! Look into a torque converter and headers, too. That should get ya there... Oh yeah, and stickier tires. Those Goodyear GS series are ok for daily driving, but they aren't helping you when it comes to punchin' it.
Just my $.02,
Daryl

his car is an m6 so the converter option is out but yea headers WILL get u there.....cut out MIGHT.
SpecForceZ28 10-19-2003, 03:20 AM What mods are done to your vehicle?
Assuming your car is stock, i'd do these mods:
TB bypass
Free Ram Air Mod
SLP Lid & Cutout
The spark plugs and wires if you prefer
And of course, weight reduction :)
That configuration should net you into 110mph category, or will at least get up up to 109.50 or something like that.
P.S. I noticed this: First run:
60' 2.180
330' 5.911
1/8 8.891
mpg 83.72
990 11.343
1/4 13.509
mph 108.25
83mpg, impressive ;):):D
just kidding
big dave 10-19-2003, 08:23 AM After having my 94Z pick up 15 rwhp with the cutout open, I'd say yes, the cutout alone should net you 110...or damn close. Good luck.
Fred94LT1 10-19-2003, 08:23 AM The mods are exactly what the sig says. I have a SLP air lid that has been cut out on the bottom, a 3 " y-pipe, flow master cat back, hurst shifter, poly bushings on the suspension, Hal drag shocks, Metco lower control arms, hurst shifter, ported maf ends Moser 12 bolt with 3.73 gears. That's it so far. So how many RWHP do you think this trap speed equates too,
ULTIMTEORANGESS 10-19-2003, 12:02 PM id consider getting a better catback.i dont think flowmasters are that great.but i guess a cutout might take care of that anyway.
you should hit 110 easy.
UnbelievabLS1 10-19-2003, 12:19 PM No need for plug wires, as the stock LS1 wires are fine. A cutout would help tremendously over that Flowmaster, as it's been proven not to flow for crap. Honestly, you should already be hitting 110 with the mods you have. Just practice more with what you already have, and you should hit it. This means practice your launching and shifting. You really have to be agressive with these cars to milk all the power out of them.
If you can't hit 110 with practice, then go ahead and add the cutout. ;)
I was able to hit 112 mph with nothing more than free mods, a lid, cutout, shifter, and 17' Nitto's, :)

What RPM should I be shifting at? Obviously before it hits the rev limiter, but damn it was still pulling when it hit the damned thing between shifts,
UnbelievabLS1 10-19-2003, 01:16 PM With a 99', you need to be shifting as close to the 6250 rev limiter as possible. Do you have a shift light? If so, go out and a-tap, and shift right at the rev limiter. Be sure to watch your tach, as the factory tach is REALLY slow. Make a few WOT runs, and go back and check your a-tap logs, and see where you were shifting at. Usually, you want to set your shift light about 2-400 rpm's before your rev limiter, depending upon how fast you shift. After you set your shift light, go back out and make a few WOT runs, and a-tap them again. go back and check your logs, and see how close you're getting to your rev limiter, and then make your adjustments accordingly. ;)
If you don't have a shift light, I would just get REALLY familiar with my tach! lol Before I got my shift light, I was shifting at approx. 6150-6200 rpm's, but my tach was only showing 53-5400 on the 1-2 shift, and 56-5700 on the 2-3 shift, and then, finally, it would catch up on the 3-4 shift. :)
autoguy 10-20-2003, 12:20 AM what are these "nitto's" i keep reading about? sorry to post a dumb question.. just curious... :) thanks guys
94ZRiCeKiLr 10-20-2003, 12:52 AM Nittos are Drag Radial tires......completely treaded and street legal but heat em up and they bite 10 times harder than a street tire can. they only have about a 10K mile treadlife (less if ur like me :D ) and theyre ok in the rain but the dry traction is much better than a street tire....
to make an example there are guys in the NMRA drag radial class going like 8.XXs on em and scraping the rear bumper coming off the line...
great mod.
