Introducing production ready Dodge Magnum & Chrysler 300guionM 10-15-2003, 12:13 PM http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek&cat_code=carnews&loc_code=index&content_code=02670418 transam8 10-15-2003, 12:18 PM Ehh...not bad. I'll reserve final judgement until I see them in person. Just how big (dimensions wise) is the Magnum? It looks huge  -Mike jrp4uc 10-15-2003, 12:20 PM I have my doubts, as the article pointed out, that middle-America is ready for a wagon-only Intrepid replacement. It's neat for what it is though. formula79 10-15-2003, 12:24 PM The interiors in them look cheap and plasticy especially considering these are likley to start at $30K R377 10-15-2003, 12:36 PM They probably saved some money using GMC Envoy headlights on the Magnum :p But seriously, both front ends are butt-ugly, especially the Chrysler. They have nice rumps, tho. tgitom30 10-15-2003, 01:00 PM The dodge looks like a truck from the front, it looks huge. The interior of the chrysler needs to get richer materials to match its stately presence from the outside. Z28Wilson 10-15-2003, 01:25 PM The Magnum concept was huge. It really looks like a cumbersome car to drive. At Chevy we complain about the chrome bar. But haven't we seen the front end of the Magnum before? Like a mid-90's Dakota...old Ram...current Ram....:o --(yawn) Darth Xed 10-15-2003, 01:30 PM Originally posted by Z28Wilson The Magnum concept was huge. Kind of reminded me of a modern day Caprice Estate Wagon.  jwade95Z 10-15-2003, 01:47 PM Agreed on the volume forecasts, I don't know how much volume it will sell. I like it alot though. It looks chopped and muscular. With a Hemi, I think you've got something special here. Between this car and the FX45, I think the family car has been redefined to include cutting edge style & performance. I've seen a number of the Caprice wagons dressed up like an SS recently, and have to say they look pretty sharp, even today. I read somewhere that they were shooting for a $25K price on this. I would assume the Hemi would take it into the $30s since it would probably come with all the bells & whistles. The article talks about dealers wanting a sedan to sell beside it. I dont' necessarily disagree in order to get volume, but if I was in the market, the wagon would get my $. This thing is just plain cool right out of the box. Joe K. 96 Zeee!! 10-15-2003, 01:49 PM I'll take a silver spear over that yawning chasm of a grill anyday! First picture I looked at I could've sworn I was looking at a lowered pick-up. We may crack on GM styling a bit, but they've got nothing on Chrysler and Dodge's new styling direction. 95GRNZ 10-15-2003, 02:31 PM Originally posted by Joe K. 96 Zeee!! Well said. :thumb: Just too bad they didn't make the Magnum's grille chrome, like on the new Durango. Other than that, the Magnum definetely looks HUGE but I'll have to see it in person to comment further. It could turn out to be just okay. 300C is okay, I guess... TS Meccadeth 10-15-2003, 03:11 PM Holy crap! If the Hemi Magnum comes in under $30K, I'm taking my mom to the closest Dodge dealership as soon as it comes out! I'm liking the 300C by the pics too :thumb: 99SilverSS 10-15-2003, 03:37 PM Wow how much do those land yachts weigh?? GOD they look like a sister platform to a Bendley Arnage T! I still can't believe Dodge replaces the Intrepid with a rwd station wagon. What are they going to use in NASCAR. I guess they can slap Stratus on the nose, at least they make a 2dr Stratus..... centric 10-15-2003, 03:40 PM Stick a fork in them . . . they're done. Note to designers: do not let Germans or Japanese style your cars. Very very bad idea. guionM 10-15-2003, 03:50 PM Originally posted by 99SilverSS Wow how much do those land yachts weigh?? About a hair under 4,000 pounds for the 300C. Before we go into vapor lock over this, it's only about 150 lbs or so heavier than a V8 BMW 5 series (which is hardly a big car), and a few pounds lighter than an Impala SS. IRS that doesn't have alot of expensive lightweight alumunum pieces is going to make any car pretty heavy. Those old Lexus 430SC coupes were about 2 tons as well. poSSum 10-15-2003, 03:55 PM RWD with available V8 that's not a truck or SUV ...what's not to like. Looks like they'll beat GM and Ford to the market in this segment (excluding luxury brands). Darth Xed 10-15-2003, 04:09 PM I don't hate the magnum, but wagons don't do much for me. If Chevy Chase makes another National Lampoon's Vacation movie, I think we already know which car will become the family cruiser! :metal: JEDCamino 10-15-2003, 05:56 PM I like them both. I can't explain why, but I do. morb|d 10-16-2003, 03:34 AM are they purpously trying to make Dodge and Chrysler nich brands? they're already getting beat on volume as it is. i mean, haven't they learned from the Pacifica? i think that Dodge should definitely have a sedan version of the LX siblings. its their next bread and butter, how are they going to cut it out? what happens when a buyer wants to look at a Dodge mid-sized sedan? THERE ISN'T ONE. Z28x 10-16-2003, 07:36 AM You would think the Hemi in car form would have more HP I liked the 300M better (looks wise, not powertrain) morb|d - The Pacifica is selling very vell, they were up 15% 2 months ago. They just got a slow start b/c of lack of cheaper FWD models dnovotny 10-17-2003, 03:20 PM As long as the price is right this will be our next family hauler (kids are coming soon). Gotta love muscular American styling of a wagon that boasts V8 and AWD. Anyone hear what the pricing of the Dodge Magnum will be? guionM 10-17-2003, 04:04 PM Originally posted by dnovotny As long as the price is right this will be our next family hauler (kids are coming soon). Gotta love muscular American styling of a wagon that boasts V8 and AWD. Anyone hear what the pricing of the Dodge Magnum will be? Upper 20s. With the V8 just over $30K (roughly 5 grand over the Intrepid). Not too bad of a price if the interior materials and assembly are vastly improved to at least the levels of the new Grand Prix. ronssito 10-17-2003, 04:21 PM I like it! :D  1990 Turbo Grand Prix 10-17-2003, 04:34 PM I don't find the bodies all that bad, it is just that the concept's huge wheels made the overall styling more flowing. Add some big wheels to the picture, and I wouldn't have much a problem. mastrdrver 10-17-2003, 07:40 PM I dont like them as much as the prototypes. They dont seem as "edgy" as the protos did, although I like the new Cadilac cars too. guionM 10-23-2003, 01:24 PM More production ready pics: http://wieck.com/public/*2PV_059261 http://wieck.com/public/*2PV_059264 http://wieck.com/public/*2PV_059265 http://wieck.com/public/*2PV_059263 http://wieck.com/public/*2PV_059260 Magnum Force 10-23-2003, 01:55 PM Hemi power could make this a very "forceful" Magnum, indeed, if you catch my meaning Z28x 10-23-2003, 02:30 PM I don't think a Magnum Sedan would look good, They better stick with the Charger concept. Does this mean Dodge is back out of the Police market?? The just introduced the Intrepid Cop car, and now there is no more Dodge full size sedan. KLee 11-01-2003, 06:29 AM 4 doors, V-8, RWD or AWD and under 35K, whats not to like. I would drive a Ford Falcon (If Ferd made one today) if it were available. At least now I won't have to buy another Ricer, prior to this, the Infinity G35 was really the only choice of inexpensive RWD sports sedan. Z28x 11-01-2003, 05:39 PM From a business stand point I think it would have been better to put out a Charger Sedan/Coupe first, then the Magnum Wagon a year or so later. Having the Stratus as the Biggest Dodge Sedan now is a bad move. No way the Magnum will sell as many car as the Intrepid did no matter how good it is. number77 11-01-2003, 05:49 PM i htink i need to get some dodge / chrystler stock guionM 11-01-2003, 08:02 PM Originally posted by Z28x From a business stand point I think it would have been better to put out a Charger Sedan/Coupe first, then the Magnum Wagon a year or so later. Having the Stratus as the Biggest Dodge Sedan now is a bad move. No way the Magnum will sell as many car as the Intrepid did no matter how good it is. This is DaimlerChrysler's way of attempting to force potential RWD sedan buyers to spring for the 300 instead of a cheaper Magnum sedan. Logic being that the "gotta have it" folks who traditionally are the 1st in line when a new vehicle comes out (the ones who pay insane amounts over sticker) get milked for all they're worth. This works for new cars like the Mustang, Thunderbird, Corvette, or Camaro when they 1st hit the streets, but for minivans or sedans which tend to attract budget-minded shoppers, it's not a very good move. Unfortunately, it seems the same person who did the Pacifica marketing (put out the expensive version 1st then a cheaper one later) has struck again. That person should be moved someplace else besides marketing IMHO. | ||
