SSR delayed.Z284ever 10-14-2003, 10:40 AM http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek&cat_code=carnews&loc_code=index&content_code=07661507 Darth Xed 10-14-2003, 10:43 AM The funny thing is that I just saw an SSR on the road (first one) yesterday. On SR 11 heading south away from Youngstown and toward Canfield.... It was Red... jg95z28 10-14-2003, 12:03 PM And here I was just about to rush out and buy a half dozen. :p Sixer-Bird 10-14-2003, 12:07 PM They just lost my money. ;) redzed 10-14-2003, 01:44 PM Could it be that the SSR exists just to make the Hummer H2 seem cheap, quick and stylish? Nah. guess who 10-14-2003, 04:20 PM Originally posted by redzed Could it be that the SSR exists just to make the Hummer H2 seem cheap, quick and stylish? Nah. ROTFLMAO! God that is too funny.:D 99SilverSS 10-14-2003, 04:46 PM Interesting, I see atleast 2-3 a day. All GM vehicles though. But they look real real good on the street. Very impressive when you see them moving and driving. They stand out quite a bit, esp the yellow ones. Top down looks sweet! They look so different than anything else on the road. Really and eye catcher when put in traffic with a sea of SUV's, pick-ups and sedans. While they may be priced too high they are atleast a cool vehicle and I'd be suprised if they didn't sell all that are made. BigDarknFast 10-14-2003, 08:02 PM Interesting, I see atleast 2-3 a day. I'm not a fan of fat fenders... but I have to admit the SSR is growing on me and it really makes for a cool cruiser. IMPALA64 10-15-2003, 12:00 AM I cant wait to see one really lowered all the way...with a set of American Racing Torq Thrusts on it....and some Flowmasters...mmmm, I wish I had one. jawzforlife 10-15-2003, 10:38 AM Originally posted by 99SilverSS Interesting, I see atleast 2-3 a day. I love the SSR and have since day one. I'm just not crazy about its steep price tag and excessive curb weight. $40K+ for a 15 sec. pickup? No, thanks. Z28Marcus 10-15-2003, 06:27 PM SSR would be an ok car/truck/thing if they shaved 400/500 lbs of the curb weight and gave it a real 5.7L LS1. I mean why does this 2 seater thing with nearly zero utility weigh so much and have so little get up and go??? Other than being built on a truck platform.... but why? ckt101 10-15-2003, 06:36 PM Not that I really care too much, because the SSR is not something I would buy, but isn't this delay a little extreme? I'm almost positive that I saw the SSR concept for the first time, and the same detroit auto show where I saw the pt cruiser concept. Since then, the pt cruiser has been produced, new cruiser models introduced, and people have gotten bored of the whole thing, and the ssr is still not in production. I hope if gm is actually going to make a solstice, it won't follow the same timeline. Fbodfather 10-20-2003, 12:01 AM A few things to keep in mind..... The SSR is a limited production vehicle......about 10K a year..... It is not for everybody...it is a halo vehicle...and not everyone will like it....... It is startling as to how much the production vehicle mirrors the concept vehicle......very few changes. It is wise to delay shipping vehicles until any last minute problems are worked out. I'm driving a red one...............I've driven Corvettes "on announcement day" (i.e. C5 and C4....also had an 82 Camaro prior to public introduction........) These cars got attention....but I have never seen ANYTHING get this much attention.........I watched a grown man walk into a street sign in Grosse Pointe a couple of weeks ago while I was driving by.........I had it on the Ohio turnpike and drove into a service plaza........9 cars followed me in.........no matter where I take it, people stare....follow you...give you the 'thumbs up' etc. One poor unfortunate in a Taurus was trying to get past me in the right-hand lane...was looking in his rearview mirror....and very nearly rearended a truck...... Even this morning, I parked in a Kroger parking lot.......came out to a dozen people wanting to know more about it. How successful will it be? I don't know...but I know this.......I had a Commemorative Edition Corvette Convertible and a Z06 on display at the Texas State Fair........and also a Red SSR.........you could not get near the Red SSR........and this is the first time that anything seemed to eclipse the Corvette. I think it has something about it...an aura......that people my age really like. I'm REALLY surprised at the number of middle aged women that "just have to have one." ( I thought it would skew more to men......we shall see as they start to get shipped to dealers and delivered........) Now...with that said......still love my Camaros and Firebirds! Darth Xed 10-20-2003, 08:40 AM Originally posted by Red Planet I had it on the Ohio turnpike and drove into a service plaza........ Did you have it on Ohio SR11 at any point? Maybe the red SSR I passed was you! :D How successful will it be? I'd bet if you had a C6 the Corvette would have gotten more attention. ;) I think the simple reason that the C5 shape has been around since 1997 and the SSR is just hitting the streets is a huge reason why the SSR was getting more attention. Not trying to bash the SSR, just making a point.... the SSR is not my thing, but I can see where some people would like it... and it is different. JEDCamino 10-20-2003, 10:36 AM The other day my dad saw a yellow one in my town. I don't know why there would be one in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, but oh well. :p I didn't care for it until I saw the red one at the Bowling Green event, but I must admit that seeing it in person really changed my opinion. I especially like the interior and the way the top folds out of sight. It's very cool to watch. SCNGENNFTHGEN 10-25-2003, 03:25 AM I have liked the SSR since day one. Then I went to Carlisle and seen it in person and man is this thing sweet. I wish I could afford one. I also saw the Chevy SS and Pontiac G6 and thought the same. These are some really nice vehicles. Hats off to all involved  Z28x 10-25-2003, 10:11 AM Originally posted by ckt101 I'm almost positive that I saw the SSR concept for the first time, and the same detroit auto show where I saw the pt cruiser concept. The SSR concept was first shown at the 2000 auto show curciut. I was sad to see the Production SSR didn't get tap-shift or the 6.0L V8 like the concept had. I'm sure it will get a Manual trans. and some more power in the coming years. SSR is a very cool truck, I'd love to have a Silver one, but I'm saving up for a 2006 C6 or GTO. guess who 10-26-2003, 06:55 PM Someone in my town must own one a SSR.Ive seen this thing over 10 times in a 2 week period.Same road.It is red.And looks small to me?? | ||
