In short, it says that SLP owns the rights to the Judge badge and will offer GTO packages (Bobcat and Judge) that will reflect a "retro" theme that traditionalists can relate to. This is in response to GM taking the GTO badge in a "different direction". Bobcat to sport 389 HP and Judge with 421HP. Also a Z17 package for C5 vettes that have 3 levels of power upgrades up to 421HP.

You have to wonder about pricing, though. You could guesstimate $45k for a SLP GTO Judge; will traditionalists like that part? I guess we'll have to see how they execute the retro styling.

Not saying you all are wrong, but when did I miss that news?!?!

SLP's website is up and going fine. They just finished customer appreciation day 2003 last weekend! The article is a scan from a magazine dated October 2003.

I remember hearing that they were going to close an installation center, but that's all I ever heard!

Edit: The magazine is "SEMA News Monthly" You think they'd know about this.

It was last month.

Also don't forget, most magazine stories are written 4-6 months in advance of publication.

Wasn't the name "Bobcat" last used on the Mercury-badged version of the Ford Pinto? The name "Judge" was a reference to the Laugh In TV program from the 1960s. Talk about scraping the bottom of the pop culture barrel.;)

SLP never shut down, just the message board. As a matter of fact they just started making Mustang parts.

Now I'm really confused...

What was with the RedPlanet post then? Was that just the partnerships between GM F-body and SLP he was talking about?

Well I heard theor marketing and OE engineering teams are no longer there. They still do aftermarket performace parts but not the parts that they can sell as a package on a new car. Thats the last I heard. Hopefully it wasnt true.

Their Axtell Road office is about 2 miles from my office, I used to stop in from time to time. But I havent visited them in a year or so. Maybe its time to take a ride over there and see who's still there.

I don't think anyone will be there because they packed up and went back to New Jersey.

I thought "bobcat" was owned by Royal Pontiac in Michigan who produced " Royal Bobcats" and not owned by GM???

Royal Pontiac is gone, its Jim Fersard Pontiac now. So I guess SLP bought the rights to the Bobcat name. Amazing in this day in age that nobody went and copywrited the Bobcat name before SLP.

Not sure about the "Judge" name GM or Pontiac may have the rights to it, and thus if SLP would make a vehicle they could lease it from GM. I have a hard time beleiving that Judge is not copywrited by now! yet stranger things have happened....

SLP has moved the majority of their Michigan operations to NJ.

According to Dave Hamburger at SLP day in NJ last weekend, they are targeting spring for a GTO package.

I was surprised to find this myself, but no one had rights to "The Judge", and SLP has indeed attained the copyright for it and "Here come da Judge". I asked Dave about it, and he told me to do a search at the US Patent and Trademark Office (http://www.uspto.gov/) site. I turned these up.

Why don't they pick a name that is relavent today, instead some saying from a TV show 30+ years ago. Maybe there will be a "whoop there it is" GTO or "I'll be back"or some other popluar 80's/90's saying:D

I'd rather see a WS6 GTO (or maybe call it WS7 since WS6 is now used by the GTP)

I suggest a GTO XXX, from the next XXX movie that will come out with Vin Diesel. ;)

I don't know about the rest of you guys.....but this all seems so gimmicky and contrived to me.

Lemme see........the "Bobcat"treatment gives exactly 389 horsepower, the "Judge", exactly 421.

What?....no "Ram Air" or "Hurst" with exactly 455hp? Are we running out of displacements that we can convert into horsepower?

Does anyone remember what a "Bobcat" supertune was? Or what a "Judge" was? Does anyone care.....ANYONE??????????

They'll sell them all,.....I'm sure...... and at a huge mark-up, but I'm just turned off by all this contrived bullsh!t.

Ice Cube will be in the new xXx, not Vin Diesel. Sorry Vin fans.

GTO XXX would be more pop culture relevent then GTO "The Judge"

THe GTO special edition name that I want to see the most is GTO 427 or GTO 7.0L :D
