lt1hatesme 10-14-2003, 01:36 AM im seriously thinking about getting a PO BOX out of state and registering my car in another state. what i need to know is the smog laws for arizona and nevada. could anybody enlighten me?? im in the military so i can get away with driving an out of state car, and i really want to mod my car, but i cant even put in a decent cam without failing smog. its sickening.
somebody please tell me what emissions are like in arizona and nevada?? thank you
SAM98TAM6 10-14-2003, 02:59 AM We have smog testing here in Clark county, but there are plenty of ways to get around it. It is a visual and sniffer test, or if an OBD2 car, then they can just plug it in.
If you have an address in Nye County(just outside Vegas), then anything goes.
:)
lt1hatesme 10-14-2003, 09:05 AM so youre telling me that different parts of nevada have different emissions rules?? does the nevada DMV know that??
SAM98TAM6 10-14-2003, 09:49 AM I'm pretty sure the DMV knows about it....
;)
lt1hatesme 10-14-2003, 01:18 PM well can you answer me this? i want to put headers on my car, but the good ones, dont have a CARB number for use in california. does the part of nevada that has a sniffer and visual, require a CARB number (im pretty sure its only california). so then what im asking is if i buy long tubes with all the emissions hook ups will it pass the visual as long as its hooked up correctly and will it pass the sniffer.
also i definently want to run a bigger cam, how leanient are they with this kind of stuff??

Very similar here in Phoenix. Outside of the Phoenix and Tuscon areas you don't even have to worry about that, however, you'll have to have a real address to do that (I.E. PO box won't cut it, has to be a real place.)
It should also be said that while mostly your will just do the sniffer or OBDII they do reserve the right to do a visiual inspection on your car if they have reason to believe that it has been modded from original spec. However I have never heard of anyone ever being inspected in this way with a newer car.
lt1hatesme 10-14-2003, 09:16 PM so lets say i find a new address... what do i need to do?? just go to the dmv with my paper work and register my car there? and im assuming i will need to get another state licence? and thats it? if thats all please name me a few cities that would be good to go for. thanks all

If given a choice of cities to get an address in Try like Tonopah, Quartzsite or Yuma... they are out of Maricopa country and are considered rural areas... also not that far from the california border
Caged Monkey 10-15-2003, 12:15 AM Im in Yuma and we have no emissions testing at all. Their registration can also be good for 2 years so you wouldnt have to worry about it for quite a while. :D
Also, if your military, the car is registered in your name, and you are not from the state you are stationed in, you dont have to pay a lot of the fees involved in registration. You are classified as a non-resident and are exempt from them. Since I am a legal resident of Nevada, my average registration for 2 years down here is about $30. ;)
lt1hatesme 10-15-2003, 12:42 AM i really wish i was stationed in yuma, then i could just register my car there. im stationed in pendleton right now and i am also a california resident. i need to think of a way to register my car in yuma, since its so close.
wantafastz28 10-15-2003, 08:55 PM Find a place in mohave county and you will be set. No emissions. :)
lt1hatesme 10-16-2003, 12:32 AM where exactly is mohave county? in relation to california?
SVT Killer LV 10-30-2003, 01:30 AM mojave county is just northeast of san bernandino county. palmdale is in majave....
clark and washoe are the 2 counties in nevada that require smog laws.. kind funny cause our capital is not in any of them...
morb|d 10-30-2003, 06:20 AM damn!? since when has it become illegal to mod your car??
