The car was having some issues though, and wouldn't run better than high 14's. So Brett got to drive it over to Vinci's dyno...that's the last I've heard. I'm sure he'll be on here tonight bragging.

LT1Brutus 10-13-2003, 11:01 PM The car's sweet. It has some timing issues. After speaking w/ a few Australian companies that I carry parts for, it turns out that the Monaro has an "abuse management system." If the cars computer detects repeated abuse it pulls timing...LOTS OF IT to save the automatic. The GTO we have was the 2nd one to hit the shores (4 total) so it is believed to have a Monaro computer. This was evidenced by the fuel guage not working, the temp guage being way off (centigrade we think) and a couple other little glitches. Well, the theory is that it has 762 Magazine miles on it...so its been thorougly abused. Our Australian associates told us how to ground out the "abuse management" to make it forget that it's been abused. We'll see if it helps. After being on the dyno and having its computer gone through it felt a whole lot better. We also think it may have had some 87 octane in it. The dyno first registered 211 rwhp, then 242, 247....we cooled the car for 45 minutes, went through the computer and suddenly we pulled 262 rear wheel with 278 ft. lbs. That's still somewhat low to me, but up .....WAY up compared to the first run...where it stumbled off idle. It turns out that the computer reconized Foot-braking and turns on "torque management" which dumps the timing. Tomorrow we'll run it w/out footbraking it and reset the abuse managment logger every run.
You get a lot of looks on the 408 EWExp when you're driving a car w/ manufacturer plates on it that doesn't exist yet in most people's minds. If anyone knows someone in a Supra, F-150 lightning, or Mercedes E55 that says they tried to race me...tell em I'm sorry, but the car was on loan.

Our abuse mode settings are a lot more severe than those seen on anything in the US. The GTO Program is a hotch potch of odd timing maps, and Aussie style abuse. Let them know if you want that we have a program already that will give them 330rwhp on their Dynojet.....

I could be wrong but I dont see many people trying to race there new e55 but hey I could be wrong...

the 04 holden ls1edit is in beta (as im sure you know) but the 04 ls1edit for the GTO's is not even at that point yet. No doubt it will be a varation of the holden, but as no PRODUCTION cars have hit our shores yet we will not know for a little while.

LT1Brutus 10-15-2003, 11:15 PM Okay guys, just got back from our extensive testing session. As this is a GM car and we were technically forbade to do any work to it we could not utilize the LS1edit/EFILive or any of our Australian tuners reprog solutions. We were able to temporarily fake it out. The idea regardless was to evaluate a STOCK A4 goat, not a tuned one....yet.
This IS the first A4 GTO and we now believe that its early status led to a large mistake: The ECM's torque managment and abuse managment system was still programmed for the Monaro's 270 hp....not 350hp. Regardless we never got timing up to where it should be...the best we could do was 22* @ WOT compared to the LS1 vette we had out there which was running @ 29* in stock trim.
The OFFICIALS from GM say Thanksgiving Day is the official release date. We will be attempting to get a 6-speed to test before then and evaluate it. According to some inside sources another magazine has pushed one of the 6-speed test cars to 12.95 in the 1/4 mile. I can fully believe that since we were able to get a 14.0 in 99* ambient temperature with severe timing issues that caused the car to studder, bog, and run 2.3-2.7 sixty foot times (depending on how severly the abuse managment reacted).
You will all be amazed at the quality of the interior, the tightness of the body lines, and the appearance of the car in person. The Blaupunkt stereo makes the 95 Z28's Bose stereo (the best in my opinion) sound cheezy. The sound was soooo crisp and combined with a Cadillac quiet interior with NO squeaks or rattles it sounded great.

LT1Brutus 10-15-2003, 11:31 PM Mike, you forget that I have connections everywhere. We'll be purchasing 1-3 GTOs in the next 4 months w/ a dealer we have a good relation with. Don't forget that leasing is a great option to forgo upfront cost.
