mooleyz28 10-01-2003, 09:10 PM I have a 1999 Camaro z28 with 60k miles on it. I have some friends who work at a dealership where i bought my car and i had them do a favor or two for me (concerned dipping parts into oil and getting a new engine) They ended up getting me a 2001 LS1 with the LS6 block and manifold, etc... I am having a few problems when i start the car... meaning... It starts perfectly fine but my speedo needle goes to 155 and my tach goes to 6 grand my fuel gauge goes to empty... ALL MY GAUGES GO NUTS - easy way tp put it! When my speedo goes to 155 (obvisouly im not going 155) and when my tach goes to 6 grand (my car isnt loud from reving it just seems to jump up there without reving up) After i let it run for about 15 seconds it seems to be fine (all my gauges are in the right areas and nothing it wrong) Im curious in what you friendly/helpful people happen to think? I would like to know if there has been any other occurances with this "problem"... If anyone knows how to fix it (MY CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY - BY THE WAY)... Thanks, if anyone has any information... (i dont want to go to the dealer "clueless"on the problem cuz they think i know a little bit about cars lol... Thanks.
Slappy3243 10-01-2003, 09:12 PM If it is under warrenty, then take advantage. Go to a different dealer if you must.
Greed4Speed 10-01-2003, 09:27 PM Just because it has the LS6 block and manifold doesn't make it an LS6.
Sounds like you tried giving the dealer the shaft only to get it right back. Replaced a 60k mile engine only to get electrical gremlins.
mooleyz28 10-01-2003, 09:38 PM Not to sound like a jerk or anything... But it is an LS6 i said block and manifold so that people could understand that there is more to an LS6 block and for bragging rights in general.. sorry if i didnt clarify it enough... no need to "hate" on me for what i have be happy cuz i have a f-body like u and that its nice and i am fortunate..:)
Aklaim 10-01-2003, 10:22 PM I guess I've been drinking the "hater-ade" but you do NOT have an LS6. If you had an LS6 you would also have the heads and cam that go along with block and intake. You have an LS6 block and manifold only. You do not have an LS6 motor.
mooleyz28 10-01-2003, 10:29 PM Im guesing you do drink alot of the "hater-ade" so next post ill be sure to give ALL DETAILS so that those of u who cant see the "etc..." will understand all that apply's to an LS1. Man just answer my question if you know the answer or give suggestions if you have any to help me... But dont put your 2 cents in about my LS6 seeing u dont know me or my car... So ya thanks again....
99blackSS 10-01-2003, 10:48 PM Welcome to the board.
I had the same thing happen to my car, only right after all the gauges swept my car would turn off. Ended up being a loose battery connection from me not tightening the terminals enough.:o It cost me dearly, the dealer charged me $100 plus put 40 miles on my car.

Yes or no....
Do you have LS6 heads AND cam installed on your new motor that you bs'd the dealer for?
chpmnsws6 10-02-2003, 12:55 AM dude, i've been watching this one and waiting for someone to give the answer. if ya don't have anything nice to say DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL please...... he was happy about his ls6 block and so let em be, i know i would be!
ty, now i will get off my soapbox :p
Aklaim 10-02-2003, 01:00 AM Ok, fine....Im done. No need to answer previous question. I just hate when people try to brag about **** that they dont have. Or when people are so far in denial about stupid **** only to try and make themselves look cool in front of others......its a little pet peeve of mine. SO im done....mods can lock this ish down if they want to.
X-Roush Stanger 10-02-2003, 02:46 AM Umm well i don't have an f-body, yet. But somthing exactly the same as what you described happened to my mustang. I don't know if this applies to you but here's why it happen to me. I disconnected the battery when I installed my H-pipe. After when I went to put battery back on and start the car it all gagues went through their full range of motion. Basically it happen when you first restart your ECU after it has been unplugged and resets itself by first going through a kinda of selftest. What I would do is definately check your connection to your battery. Or check the connections to your ECU because it might not be getter juice and thus resetting every time you start the car. Sorry its so long I hope this helps.
X-Roush Stanger 10-02-2003, 02:52 AM oh one other thing I should mention to Aklaim. mooleyz28 never said the dealer gave him an ls6 engine. If you read his post again he said, "getting me a 2001 LS1 with the LS6 block and manifold, etc... " If I understand correctly he never mentioned anything about an ls6 engine. He simply stated that it was an ls1 and that it did use an ls6 block (from my understanding some ls1s did use it) and also had a ls6 intake (which all 01 & 02 camaros had).

Here, two lines in his sig where he plainly states that he has an LS6
rncotton 10-02-2003, 09:42 AM To answer your question and not get involved with the flame war ...
There is a TSB for your problem. I'll see if I can dig it up, but the dealer should have it in their book.
X-Roush Stanger 10-02-2003, 11:17 AM my mistake didn't read the sig just his post. Ok but I mean it can't be that big of a deal.

About a 40+ rwhp difference between a real LS6 and an LS1 with the LS6 block/intake ... besides, 25% of the 2002s and about 10% of the 2001s came from the factory with the LS6 block and all of them have the LS6 intake ...
So what he has, is no big deal ... him trying to claim that it is a big deal, is the big deal ... it's the epitome of ricer ...
Basically all he got was a 2002 LS1 engine and a headache. Since the 2002 doesn't have EGR and I don't believe the dealer can legally custom program that out for his '99 VIN ... if his buddies did it, I suspect they really don't have the programing skills - probably just flashed a 2002 program into his '99 PCM and that may be the root of his problem ... Not to mention that the '02 also has a different cam, so if they did keep the '99 program, then the fuel and timing tables are all incorrect for the cam profile ... probably wouldn't make as much power as a stock '99 ...

Greed4Speed 10-02-2003, 12:40 PM With that concept you could get some SS wheels and have an SS. :D
What I dislike is when people do dishonest things like dipping parts in oil to get a new engine and they think its cool. As consumers everyone else picks up the cost of your benefit. :irk:
Way the be a thief! I bet your mommy is proud she raise you that way.:thumb:
