Turbo Ideas Please.....

I am considering adding a turbo to my drag car as my winter project.
Am looking for info on engine mods that I would need to make, and a good turbo for my application.
The car is currently running 10.60's N/A. I am thinking it makes about 600 H.P. Low 9's would be my goal.
I know I will need to bring the CR down from where it is now, but to where?. Am wondering about the cam selection for a turbo. The cam I am running is an aggressive SR cam.It makes power from 4500 rpm on up. 104 LSA, .630 lift, approx 290 dur. Heads are AFR 220's. And am running a single 950 carb.
The bottom end of the 434 CI engine is all forged, with H Beam rods.

Are you wanting to make this a car that you can put some street miles on or just race track only? If this is a track only car go with a big water-to-air intercooler.

You need to drop the compression to 9:1 or lower. The cam you are using will need to be tossed. It doesn't take a big cam to go low 9's in a turbo motor. Something like 235-240int/226-230 @.50 on a 114 LSA will do it. A 76mm will make about 900HP if you push it. If you can get an 80mm or a little bigger then go for it. Your 434 won't have any problems going low 9's, im thinking that will take 900HP and will be a pretty mild engine.

I would seriously think about going fuel injection with an old speed-pro, FAST, or Gen 7 setup. Fuel injection will be much easier than a carb.

I kinda figured that injection would be the easiest, albeit adding unwanted cost.
I think it will remain a strip only car. Does the air to water IC, reject heat to the engine cooling water then?
Are there any kits that would have the exhaust plumbing, turbo, wastegate, etc as part of a DIY install?

No, a water to air IC is totally seperate from the engine coolant. A water to air is a little more work between rounds. You will get a small pump that will circulate ice water through the IC before each run.

Someone else will have to answer the question about the DIY kits.

Another thing I didn't think about before was finding a good pistons to get the compression down to 9:1. Call Ross pistons and see if they can get you a piston that will work with the 4 inch stroke and whatever rod, im guessing 6 inch. I know it was close finding one for my 3.75 stroke 383.
