bfg drag radial hooks better than et street

I just switched from a 275/60/15 bfg drag radial to a 28x13.5x15 MT E/T street and went from a 1.701 60' to a 1.889. Can anyone clue me into why i droped almost 2 tenths in my 60 foot?

To much tire maybe?

I would say that you need some t&t time to learn the tires. I run 26-10.50x16 ET streets and pull consistant 1.70 60s in the summer heat. 16 psi cold, pretty hard burn out especially the first one for the day.

But then Drew could be right. You went to a 28" tall tire which reduces your effective gear ratio at launch. Just spray it out of the hole:D

the drag radials were 28inch tires also. I did notice that the rim spun about 8-10 inches inside of the driver tire and about 2-3 inches inside the passanger tire.

You mean not enough power ;)

The rim spun? Try some rim screws. That could certainly be a problem. Also, you want the highest amount of air that doesn't allow the tire to spin. Were there any unusual environmental conditions? At your power level I would normally be suggesting a 26" tire.

I would run a 26 inch tire if i wasn't already going through the traps at 5400rpm on motor in 3rd gear on a 3 speed trans. On the gun i am tapin the revlimiter right before the traps.

BFG'S suck! Ive never had problems with traction with mickey thompsons. Just make sure you do a good burnout and drive the car out of the box.

BFG's suck...puh-leez....cut many 1.6 60's...new combo should cut 1.5's with them....

How do the ET Streets compare to the BFGs in terms of driving on the street? I am trying to find a good tire that I can throw on my 15" bogarts permanently and drive on daily and on the track. I want something that will handle OK and get me into the 10s on the track. Was thinking about the BFG 315/60r15s or the 28/10.5/15 ET Streets or maybe the QTP Hoosiers. I heard the right set of BFG DRs can get you into the 9s... They put a Supra into the 8s. Any advice?

i loved my bfg's for daily driving, no problems with them, not even in the rain. I know there are 8 second mustangs on drag radials.

You want to talk about reducing the effective gear ratio, I am running 28" tall tires w/ 2.73s. (times in sig on street tires) I think they may actually help though b/c I shift into 3rd right before the finish and without them it is more like 50' or so.

If you spray out of the hole and everything works right you should be running high 1.4 60 ff times.

No way BFG's work better.

Either you bogged (on motor) or something was not right.

I would not run those slicks below 15 psi cold you don't need to with the power you have.

I went 1.48-1.60 at US41 all day long on 28x10.5x15 Hoosier slicks, 15psi cold, fron hals at 2/2, and rears at 3/4.

They sound great - how do they compare to driving around on the ET streets. Do you like the BFGs beter? Do they handle better?

Thanks!

Wow, im very surprised to see BFG's on an 11 sec car. Ive used them before when my car was almost bone stock and was "consistently inconsistent" in my 60' times. Of course i dont think they prep the track very well where i race. Im very happy with et streets i think theyre worth the extra money. Gotta hook up when your bracket racing..

spent a whole day at the track playin with air pressure and couldn't get better than a 1.801 out of the et streets. for the guy who said the bfg weren't consistant. I would not vary more than .030 of a second in my 60' time. a guy at the track in a 4th gen ta was cutting 1.40's on bfg. i guess every car likes a different tire.

Ya our car has reacted pretty much the same way, just switched from BFG's to ET DRAGS and we also changed the converter. So as far as a direct comparison cant do But i will say that when the track starts going away, the slicks stay fairly consistent were as the BFG's would go to ****. we spent 26 passes dialing in the BFG's and was HOOKED w/ a best 1.44 60' Our best 60' today was a 40 on the GUN. The process starts all over again.

If you are running those 28x13.5's with a stock LT1 + 4.10 + T400 stock gearing ie .248 first gear, you are 60 fting fine. On spray you should go low 1.5's no problem... Your car is a turd on motor with a stock motor I bet it won't even go 12's or just barely. You make like 275rwhp/325tq stock.

If you don't like those tires don't blame the tires, I will buy them from you. :)

lt1camaroman93
10-06-2003, 12:46 PM
you want the tires make an offer, the rims and tires where just screwed also, 5 screws on each side. I don't have 4:10 gears or a th400. i have 3:23 gears and a th350. by the way.. the car runs 12.6-12.7 consistant and a best of 12.5. that is by far no turd of a bolt on lt1.

Pro Stock John
10-06-2003, 12:52 PM
Well you are doing pretty good then for a stock LT1. Car must be light, because a 3.23 + those tires = like 2.73 gears.

If you want to sell those tires email me at prostockjohn@hotmail.com.

With spray you make like another 200 ff lbs of torque with a 150 shot, so it's a whole other ball game.
