ponyackn 09-21-2003, 05:27 PM Well, I will be making the drive down I5 in the next couple of weeks. I could definitely use any tips and suggestions from all of you SoCal'ers. Anyone in that area or even the LA and surrounding areas, please chime in.
Where do you guys suggest I go to for both smogging and good/trusting fbody shops?
I was down there visiting my gf who just got a job in that area, it is beautiful and in a way, intimidating. All I see out there is people with money, nice homes, and exotic cars-I don't recall seeing ANY fbodys, if anything I saw wrx's and rice.
I will have to find a job there or in the LA area quick. I have a college degree but that hasn't seemed to help me much up here in Sac either. So if you guys know of any good companies hiring, let me know.
Thanks,
Daniel
Wild1 09-23-2003, 02:32 PM I work in Irvine and I'm looking for a place near by to stay. Rent is about $1100 - $1400 average. Not too many Fbodys but a lot of Mustangs, Subarus, and Hondas. There are a few guys on this board in Mission Viejo, Huntington Beach, and Long Beach. There is a good fbod shop in Garden Grove, do a search in this forum and you will hear about it.
What do you need to get done?
I take my stuff to josh at jdperformance73@aol.com he has a shop in Huntington Beach and does just about anything.
Welcome... Let me know if you need any more info about the area.

Thanks Wild1, I'd thought I'd at least get a reply from you:). Well, I don't need any current work done to my car, but I quite frequently get a good case of the mod mumps;). It's more of a security thing to just in case the car breaks down, I won't have my father's garage to work in anymore.
My girl and I have also found that living prices range btwn $1,200-1,400. But most of that area is gorgeous, almost in an uncomfortable way for me at least. My biggest task for me is to find a good job down there.
Is the weather always pleasant down there? It seems like everytime I visit it's like nice and sunny, another thing for me to feel excited about.
I guess I'll be down the week after this.
Wild1 09-24-2003, 01:45 AM Yeah, it is beautiful and nearly crime free. Most of the stuff that gets damaged are from Hondas and some of the gangs in Santa Ana. Otherwise, it is a nice place to be.
The weather is always great however it has been very unusually cloudy. But there is no snow to shovel.
You're coming down and are looking for a job? What are you looking for? It is a recessed economy here and work is difficult. Most of the apartment and condo associations don't let you work on your car. But if you have a garage then you can close your door. Oil changes aren't a problem if you're done in an hour... most small things. But suspension or other stuff that takes time might get a few "snobby" people who can't check their oil upset.
Perhaps I can steer you in the direction of getting a job.
Greg
Carlos01SS 09-24-2003, 03:58 AM I have heard nothing but great comments from Don Lee Automotive in Ontario? Apparently the owner, Tim Lee, his mechanics know lots regarding f-body LT1's & LS1's, his rates are reasonable, lots of f-body enthusiasts have taken their cars there & have said very good things about Don Lees shop.
NewbieWar 09-24-2003, 09:58 AM I live in Diamond bar, a little east of orange county but right on the edge (county line is in my back yard)
but i'm new to fbodys so i cant really help u out.
ponyackn 09-24-2003, 07:49 PM Hey Greg, that'd be great if you could help me find out who's hiring. Only problem is, I don't know what to do. I have a BA in sociology from UCD but I don't necessarily have to get a job in that field esp. since you practically need a Master's to make money in that field. I'm not quite a tech or computer type. My lady wants me to look into the fire dept. out there. Who knows?
Carlos, I'll keep that spot in Ontario in mind. My question regarding smog shops is because I don't want to run into a ton of places who trip off of stuff like visuals, esp. when I want to do longtubes.
NewbieWar, I don't quite know where Diamond Bar is, I guess I'll have to bust out the map and start learning my surrounding areas and directions.
Later,
Daniel
