still not enough parts

>I thought I had just about all the items for my engine (mostly new parts) but I forgot to get an oil pan stud kit . I don't want to use the bolts on the old pan since it's still filled with oil and on the old engine .
I should have to reuse the intake , throttle body , heads , and associated hardware (except I went with the ARP head stud kit) .

How did you guys install you harmonic balancer ? I have an install tool , but the nut gets so recessed in the hub that it seems impossible to turn .
I hope to get this money pit on the road before the first snow fall this year since I want a safety inspection and not an emissions sticker :rolleyes:

What car is this motor going into? Also what is the size of the engine?

Im sure all your harwork will payoff when it hits the road.

I assume you're talking about the hub? I think I used a standard deep socket...if I remember correctly the impact sockets were too thick.

As for the money pit comment, well, that may be the most accurate statement on this board! :)

Hey Josh when you installed your engine did you go through the bottom or top ?

I went through the top, but I think it will be bottom next time. By going through the bottom, you can put the headers on before lifting the cradle up, which sounds like a deal to me. Through the top felt like a hack job. I think you can be neater and more orderly by going through the bottom...but I could be wrong! :)

through the bottom is the way to go.
I have heard of people doing it with jackstands and blocks to get the car high enough to slide the cradle and engine underneath it, but it should be done on a lift. its real easy i have done the job 3 times that way. Only thing is you have to make sure the cradle and engine is some how rollable so you can line it up as the car comes down on it.

396 LT1 is definite drool man. You got to come out to some of the New England Fbody meets when you're finished. Im sure finishing the project will be well woth the time.
