How exhaust tips change sound

I just order 3 inch dual tips (2 on each side) for my car. I was wondering what characters of tips change the pitch. ie. Do dual tips on each side sound lower in pitch or louder than regular tips. Does the diameter affect anything? Does slanted cut do anything?

The only way tips can change your exhaust's sound is if you get the kind with resonators.
