V6 vs. V6 : Highway Race

At school today my friend with the 2002 cougar V6 (auto) said he would run me after school , and he also said that he just installed an intake manifold but I dont really believe him, but anyway after school we got onto highway I-75 and from about 70 mph we both hit it and we were both side by side for like a couple seconds and then I started pulling away slowly. I thought that I would pull harder with all my mods but I guess I was wrong......but then again the 3.4L is a slug on top end. Tomorrow I will probly race him from a stop and just put a couple car lengths on him. The 3.4L from a stop is no joke!! http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif

Oh , and after the race with the cougar I was heading home and this stock looking Civic Ex got about a car infront of me and punched it and then I punched it and then I realed him in slowly at from about 45 to about 70 mph . I got a car length infront of him and then stop because there were cars infront of us. The guy was laughing excitedly as I passed him . I guess it was his first race.

yep at the track I am tough through 1st, and half way through second but my car starts to lose it..

Watch out for them cougars, its basically a next generation Probe Gt, I saw one in the hig 14s all motor, no nitrous, or poweradders.

Nice kill, I used to race a friend in highschool that had one, I always cae4m out on top but I am sure he had the 4 banger model, I mean at that time my car was running 16.8s. http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif

Yeah , im gonna race him from a stop pretty soon and post it on the V6 board again . But im sure im gonna put a couple car lengths on him . My friend says its a 30th or 35th anniversay edition with 180 HP but he talks alot of ****. But I dont really understand because he is lighter than me and he has more horsepower , how the hell did I beat him on the highway? , thats crazy! I bet those cougars run about a 15 sec 1/4 mile. Your right , there no joke!

I75? Are you sure? I could have sworn it became the Turnpike (which does go to Miami) a little ways north of Orlando.

I-75 is a great place to race...here we have a stretch about 2 miles long that is gunbarrel staright...needless to say we can get about 10-15 in a group late at night (real late) and race up and down through there at least 5 or 6 times...Congrats on the win, don't forget about us after you spank him and send him home from a stop.

It is down south, cuts across the state then shoots up the west coast of florida.

I used to love Sawgrass expressway, its connectdd to I-75, my friends and in used to call it tops speed testing grounds, long straight aways, I think I have topped out every car I have every driven for more then one day on that road.

120 mph in s sebringe convertable with top down, I was inpressed with that http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif

Well after school today my friend that has the cougar V6 did not want to run me from a stop http://web.camaross.com/bb/rolleyes.gif so he came with me to Burgerking to meet my friend that has a 2002 1.8T GTi (Stock). We ran a couple of times from a roll , we both hit it at the same time and I stayed with him for a couple of seconds and he just started to pull away , maybe by 1 1/2 or 2 car lengths on me from about 40 mph to about 80 mph , if we would of kept racing beyond 80 mph he would of just kept pulling more car lengths on me http://web.camaross.com/bb/frown.gif . I sorta ran him from a stop once but he said he didnt have it in gear but I killed him off the line and he came back and passed me by 70 mph. I thought that I would be right with him because I heard those Gti's run low 15's . I dont have gears or an Lsd yet , could that be affecting me any? I think I should be in the 15's now .

Oh and before all of this happened I was leaving school and my friend with a dodge ram V8 came next to me and both of us were doing 45 mph and then he hit it a second or two before I did and then I hit it after he was alittle in front of me and he was a car length in front of me because he hit it before I did but I stayed right with him . I thought those trucks were slow , I couldnt even pass him , but I was right on his ass right when he switch lanes. What do these trucks run in the 1/4 mile and how come I could not pass him http://web.camaross.com/bb/mad.gif !! Its a freakin heavy truck , and he even had a lot of people in the car too. But I definetly think I would of blew him away from a stop, and I could of walked him if we actually both hit it at the same time.

the story bout the dodge v-8 if it was a 360, just don't lol. my brother inlaw has a 3/4 ton 97 i think with a 360 major balls but i won't tell him that. on the other hand, if its a 318 you should be takin it. i too live about 15 minutes from i-75 the stretch between dayton and cincy is considered death row b/c there has been alot of deaths and they're tryin to pass all kinds of taxes to put retaining walls er some shibby like that to keep people from goin across the median. not to mention the cops crawlin everywhere b/c of the wrecks being caused by speed.

Actually im faster then he is in top end because I actually started to come back but really slowly , If I would of ran him from a stop then I would of dusted him. And plus he didnt give me a chance , he took off about a sec or 2 before I did.

Hahaha , I raced my friend with the Cougar V6 again , but this time we raced at a light from a stop and I even let him get the jump on me and a car length ahead of me when the light turned green. All I can say is that he just got :Owned:, I passed him and by 80 mph I just kept pulling , I looked in the rear mirror and he was way behind me. Those cougars are supposed to run 16 flat in the 1/4 mile. Im impressed with my car and I dont even have gears and LSD yet ;) :D

I guess anything can happen on the street, i seriously doubt a 3.4 will beat a newer cougar v6 at the track, i seen 3 they all were stock 15.2 15.3 and 15.5 it would take almost every mod for your 3.4 to hit below 15.5

MustangEater82

hey go dirve your ass up to morrosso and get some times.

Turst me I think the FHP are much nicer in south florida then the orlando area.

They don't apprecieate street racing here ever since the kid went drag racing and rearended a car killing the passengers which was his mom and his mom's best friend.

..... Now that will **** you up for life.

My friends cougar is an automatic , they only have 170 Hp ......so i dont see why it would be hard to beat a cougar v6 . Im ordering 3.42 gears and LSD on October 30th . When I get those gear then I will kill him even worse then before!

yes and you have 160 stock so mod for mod he will most likely take you plus the newer vehicle will probably be quicker because it wont have as many miles and such

Ill go to moroso as soon as I get all the mods I want right now on my car . After I install my 3.42 gears and LSD and 1 peice alluminum drive shaft then ill be getting a stage 2 jet chip and an eddlebrock intake manifold.

His cougar V6 is slow compared to my car in the 1/4 mile , I beat him by a few car lengths on the street and I even gave him a 1 car length lead.

A grandam gt with slight modding(exhaust and CAI) may give you a run for your money, i see them as being v6 sleepers, the years 99-02.

Arent grand AM GT's supercharged ..........well I thought they were . I thought that a Grand Am GT would whoop my A**, they are fast.

*SoRRy OfFiCeR*
10-10-2002, 11:45 PM
no they are not supercharged, they have the gm stage II heads, and with the rami air option which cam about in 99' you can get 175 hp stock and with out the ram air option it has 170 which aint bad. I can only imagine what the potential is for them, i love those cars. Yea, i doubt any 94 v6's could hold ground on the hiway with them. I call them the v6 sleeper, no one ever thinks about the power they pack.

But the Ford/Mercury auto tranny is known for it's crappy performance.Wasn't it the Mustang that had like .5 sec difference between the auto and manual in the 1/4 mile?

But I still heard that the cougar ,even with the autos run 16 flat in the 1/4 mile if driven right. But the cougar with a stick should run low 15's im guessing .

This is going to surpise a bunch of people. My step brother has a 2000 1 ton Dodge regular cab 4x4 dually with that 24 Valve Cummins turbo deisel with a 6 speed manual tranny. He's put alot of miles on it so when his warranty went out all he did was put a chip in it. That heavy @ss truck just roars off the line. ran a 16.8 1/4 mile and that is one HEAVY truck. His dually keeps up with my El Camino with a 305 with a mild cam. The only reason i take him on top end is because the dually catches so much air....its hard to control.

As for a load. Pull a 30+ foot Camper behind and you can actually forget its back there. I am not a dodge fan but i do give credit where credit is due.
