97 RS Archer 09-13-2003, 07:59 PM I was reading an article in 'Chevy High Performance' and they are putting a 98 LS1 engine with T56 tranny in a 3rd gen camaro... now they say its easy, how easy would this be in the 4th gen? what would have to be moved around and has someone here done this and have pics to show this? Is this a very expensive modification? and wouldnt i have to replace the computer to get the miles right on the gauge cluster? im not a mech, but this is something i am interested in having done to my car.
97 RS 'Y87' auto..
Im looking in dropping a 98 LS1 engine and a T56 6-speed tranny.. would the mounts match right up, or would modification have to be done to mate the engine to the bay?

nothing will bolt up.
the PCM wont effect the milage, it is encrypted into the guage cluster. Take you YEARS to undo that:death:
if you can fab stuff up and all that, ehh maybe...
anyone know if you swap in a front LS1 Kmember / racka and mounts all that stuff?

i know they switched front fascias on in 98-02 so they could accomodate the ls1 (it was taller than the lt1 so they needed more room)
so, i'm not so sure it'd be too "easy"
97 RS Archer 09-14-2003, 01:51 AM ok, so what about a 97 V-8 5.7??? i just want more power, and the V-6 just doesnt have the power mods.... all i can do is slap on some headers and a new exaust, i cant get the Throttle body, the air box and lid from SLP. notta... will the 97 v-8 fit?

I'm confident the LT1 has enough potential to satisfy you.
and i'm pretty sure it will fit, it was in that car from the factory.
do a search in V6 tech for everything you need. its a lot.
from a motor mounts to driveshaft. you are better off selling it and buying a 95Z28 or something
97 RS Archer 09-14-2003, 03:48 AM sell my 97 RS for a 95 Z??? dude, i have waited along time to get a camaro... it actually took an act of war to get this car... Thats no Joke, The money i earned while i was deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom gave me the chance to get this car. I just wanted to know if i could pop in a V-8. also change the rear from drum to disk from pulling a rear axle from a 97+ to do this mod. That i know will match right up...

Thats not entirely true Trey.
The mileage IS in the PCM. I had the 95 gauge cluster, with the correct amount of miles. A little over 52K. I swapped to the 97, with one that had a little over 63K. My car now says it has 70K miles, even though it only has 59K.
And, to the best of my knowledge, you could swap the K members.
Oh, and the front fascia should be fine. There is a guy off the board who swapped a 97 front clip onto his 2002 SS. Dunno why, but he did.

the 95's had a mechanical one
and my 03 silverado is uneffected by pcm. I dont see how a 97 would be. Otherwise when you do a core swap for mail order tuning there would be choas with milage:alert:

Die myth, die! There is no problem fitting an LS1 into a stock bodied 93-97 car.
Also, swapping a LS1 vs LT1 would be the same amount of work. The difference would be the LT1 being cheaper, but of course substantially less power.
I'd go to camarov6.com, while most of the people over there are retards, there are a few who know how to do the swap.
A short list includes engine, tranny, front crossmember, wiring harness, pcm, guage, LSD rearend.
