legal age of consent?

uhm, before i get myself thrown in jail, i was wondering, what's the legal age for consentual sex in tx?

I think it's 17, unless it's a small town, then anything is fair game...

I've been told that it's definately legal at 17, but that if you're within 3 years of age and there's consent that it's down to 14. I could be wrong, as I've never actually pushed those limits!:cool:

Just dont allow her to run away with you if she is still 17 ;). Civil law is 18 in that regard. And harboring a runaway is a Class A misdemeanor :)

when i was 24, i dated a 32 year old. in the same year, i dated a very fresh 18 year old (she had just turned 18 when i met her).

i married the one that was 18 when i met her, but i still wish i'd dated that 32 year old longer. ;)

Texas Penal Code, Title 5, Offenses against the person § 21.11 Indecency with a child(so-calle statuatory rape)

subsection (a): A person commits an offense if, with a child younger than 17 years and not the person's spouse, whether the child is of the same or opposite sex, the person:
(1) engages in sexual conduct with the child or causes the child to engage in sexual conduct.

Subsection (d): An offense under Subsection (a)(1) is a felony of the 2nd degree.

Felony 2 is punishible by 2-20 years and/or a fine of 10,000

This means that 17(as the law clearly says 16 and down) is legal, but yes, you have to keep harboring laws into account.

Be very careful make sure she really is 17. I have a friend,23, who meet a girl at a club claiming she was 18. He took her home and dated her for a while, come to find out she was really 13 :eek: .. Just by lookng at her you would think she was no younger than 17. When he found out he moved out of our apartment and in with some other buddies on the other side of town. :D
