C5-R Block??

Hey LS1 guys :p

I normally spend my time in LT1 tech (obviously cuz of the year Z I have) so I'm kinda new to your are of the forum.

I just wanted to ask some of your opinion on the subject of the C5-R block.

We LT1 guys aren't lucky enough to have an aftermarket block like your guys  And I find it interesting that u have the 5.3 L (?? not sure if that's the right size, sorry??) truck block, and also the 7.0 Liter C5-R block.

Now lately, I have been reading a lot about LS1s in Super Chevy, Chevy High Performance, and GMHTP. U guys get some damn SICK numbers out of heavily stroked LS1s (409 CI), and especially motors based out of the C5R block (427 CI, 452 Ci, etc.)

My question main question, is that C5-R block really worth the $1500?? granted u got to have block work done and rotating assembly, etc, etc, etc. I'm sure that a complete 427 would have to cost damn near $8000-$10000

Anyone actually running a setup with this block? what numbers u making? CI? HSP? How high can an LS1 block be taken in terms of CI and HSP??

Sorry for the newb questions, but I'm just starting to get into LS1s :D Thanx for the opinions and comments all.

It's more than that for a well done 427.
I have an incredible hookup on Gm parts and it's still just a tick over 6g's for just the block.
Then you have to get a set of heads to keep up with the block's potential.
That right there should put you over the 10g mark in just heads and block.
I am doing a pretty radical setup and I did consider the C5R block to go with the heads I got, but I just couldn't justify the cost over a well done sleeved aluminum block.
I'm sure someone will pop on here and tell me how stupid I am for not getting it and there is no way a sleeved block will compare, but I have done my homework and I know what I know from some incredibly knowledgeable engine machinists.
As for your LS-1 envy, there is always boost, it is always the great equalizer.
If you don't believe me, I know an Impala that will make you.

The block costs 6 grand?? I knew LS1 stuff was expensive but that's a ton just for a block.
