Would you pay $28,000 for a base V8 Next-Gen Camaro?

Since a loaded new 2004 Pontiac GTO sells for $34,000 (it only comes loaded) , this most likely hints of the ballpark price of a fully loaded V8 Camaro with every performance option (convertible version will most likely add another $3000+).

A base Z28 in 1994 was $17,999, but times have changed and strippy V8's never sold as well as loaded (and more expensive) models.
I would bet that even a base V8 2006/2007 Camaro will come standard with many features that were optional on 4th-gen models
That $18,000 Z28 was rated the best bang for the buck by car mags back then and even by todays standards it still would most likely win BBFTB.

The last Z28s started around $23,000, which was still a steal. Guess what? No one bought them! Everyone bought loaded Z28s and Camaro SSs instead.
When discussions begin to drift towards the theory that Z28s were too expensive, or I start hearing bellyaches about how 28-30 grand is too much for a sports car, it makes me want to rip that person's arm off and beat them over the head with it.

If I had the $$$ at that time, no.
Two reasons:
1. I will definetely NOT buy the first year 5th Gen if/when it comes out. Just like with any other new car model. I'll let the manufacturer work out the first bugs and maybe buy it the next year.
2. I'm with jg95z28 on this: I want my car to be loaded, not a base model. Not necessarily the high high end of the model line, but close to it. Just like my current car. Only missing the CD changer.
Later!

I think a loaded V8 base Camaro will cost at least 28K. Depending on what kind of numbers it was producing I would consider something like that as a daily driver.
Most reasonable guess:
Given inflation, $28,000 is a fair guess as to where the car will end up by the time it launches (base V8, Z28, low content).
High content cars will move up from there, with loaded convertibles coming in at close to $40,000.
There aren't going to be many low content V8 cars built. They don't sell and they don't make money.
If that gets folks all bunched up in the panties, tough.

How about this, let's say the 5th gen comes out in 2007 (2008). Then, using inflation at various rates on a base Z28 at $23,000 starting:
2% per year: $25,393.86 ($25,901.74)
3% per year: $26,663.30 ($27,436.20)
4% per year: $27,983.02 ($29,102.34)
4% inflation is a better estimator for long run economic trends, but currently we are having insanely low inflation (near 1%) and threatened with deflation. But assuming we go back to a normal inflation rates, I think these prices for a base Z28 will be reasonable given that $23,000 was probably a little TOO low for what is was in 2002
2%: $26,000 ($27,000)
3%: $27,500 ($28,250)
4%: $29,000 ($30,000)

If "base V8" is code word for Z/28....then $28K is not too much.
In fact , if we peruse previous threads...I don't think anyone is expecting a 5th gen Z/28 to be much less than $30K....some here are willing to pay a WHOLE BUNCH more for a 5th gen Z/28...if it delivers the performance goods.
If we are talking a "base V8"....such as the current Mustang GT....$28K is a little on the steep side.

Z284ever,
My apologies. I didn't mean to use the term Z28 and base. That'll open up a new can o' worms. I grew up with the 4th gen so most things I think are relative to the 4th gen. Hell, the first Camaro I seriously fell in love with was a 98 SS. Guys like me on this board fuel the Z28 vs SS war.
So anyways!
Take all of what I said and call it "base V8." So if the base Camaro is going to fall in those ranges that I said above, lets take the price of the 4th gen SS and call it the 5th gen "high end V8." Assume a price of say... $28,000 - $30,000 starting for an 02 SS. Then allowing the 4th gen 02 to become the high end V8 car, it would fall in these ranges:
2%: $30,914.26-$33,122.42 ($31,532.55-$33,784.87)
3%: $32,459.67-$34,778.22 ($33,433.46-$35,821.57)
4%: $34,066.28-$36,499.59 ($35,428.93-$37,959.57)

No apology necessary....just give me a minute to "unbunch my panties"
