i have a rare low mile 85 berlinetta with the 2.8v6 and was wondering what kind of performance if much the 3.4 has over the 2.8, 1/4 times, milage, overall feel in comparison etc. and anything i should know like what to look for in a block, if i can use flat topped pistons, what components change over, if theres any clearence issues.. cost of used block to new block, cost of total project, time it may take for swap, anything i can do to give it a bit more power. im going to keep the 2.8 block just so it goes with the car
i dont mind having the v6 but its sad when economy cars are faster. not looking to snap my neck with torque, just want around 60 hp more.

You should talk to a guy named oil pan 4. He is a regular on this forum. Copied this from his signature:
3rd gen #1, 85' Camaro, T-5 3.42LSD,
mods: new 95' 3.4L, crane power max H-272-2 cam, 22lb.hr. injectors.

I bought a rebuilt 3.4L long block from crate-engines .com for 1699 w/ free shhiping. I also have a ($200) crane power max 216/228 .454''/.480'' with $42 k-motion valve springs from summit racing with 1.5 stock rockers.
I havent drove it yet.
the stock pistons are all most flat tops, GM has aluminium racing blocks for about $2000, used cast iron blocks are about 1/10 that.
The 2.8's suck it's all in there pistons there pistons are very tall and heavy the wrist pin center to the top of the piston is about 1.62'' in a 3.4 or 3.1 the piston pin hight is about 1.46''
1/4 mile times with my new 3.4 would be about 14.9 @ 92.1mph with the 2.8 in my car I would turn around 17.8 @ 76.5 mph.
The 2.8 has the same bolt pattern as the 3.4 so every thing bolts on.
