Can you take the brakes from a 4th gen Z??

Thanks for the help. I am pretty sure that you can't use 4th on first without a lot of fabrication. It would be great if you could. There's that ABS "stuff" on new cars too. However, I really like the way fourth gens stop. (see signature)

With a nice aftermarket disk break set up your 67 will be stopping like a 4th gen, if not better. IF the kits don't come with it, might as well put in some good break lines while your at it.

My 67 RS has the std packaged front power disc conversion. (I believe the previous owner got it from PST.) The rear brakes are still the original drums.

It easily out brakes my 95 Z/28.

No ABS.

No rear discs.

I've heard that rears don't help too much. Not in the budget any yet anyway. I have four rust smooth droms on the car with a 383. not a GOOD combination. $800 seems to be about the best I can find right now. It'll be snowing soon and that would be a good winter project.

Hah, yeah, I'm running a decently built 327 and I've got the good ol' 4-way power drum setup. Gets to 60 real fast, but coming down is rough :)

i am in the process of installing 12" disks off a 98 trans am onto my 69 camaro. rear is basically a bolt on swap if you have a ten bolt. for the front , on my original drum spindals i am having to machine the top boss down approx 3/8" to the same hieghth as the lower boss, than fabricate a 1/4" flat steel plate to use as caliper mount bracket. i am still in the process of this swap but by the time i get through i will be close to $425.00 total cost. that is including adjustable prop. valve and braided lines. not bad for 12" disks on all four corners.

On that first page it mentioned swapping in a '80 Z28 steering box into a first gen for bad a$$ steering. I might have to do that to mine since my steering BLOWS.

Stale, not that it has to do with brakes, but NPD has a $174.00 rebuilt with a 2.5 - 3.00 lock to lock. Any camaro 67-76 is the same (?).

Try adjusting the screw on the box and go with a smaller stering wheel. That help a lot too.

Not sure what the steering box in there now is, and I've adjusted the screw. I don't know about doing the smaller steering wheel because the old one looks all retro. My steering box is pretty wasted, so it couldn't hurt to have a new one.

I agree with the new steering. Not hard to do. I used a puller and mapp gas (I don't have oxy/ceta set up.) remember which hose goes where. from the pump. 174 plus shipping.

I feel kinda bad for converting this post to a sterring discussion. My '67 is a non power steering car, so if I were to swap power steering in, it'd be a pain. I really don't care for power steering anyway, in my opinion it's overrated. What I'd like is a slightly stronger, lower ratio manual box, but everybody seems to shun the old school non-power setup :)

breaks, steering, it's all good. I have PS but I don't realy care for it. Non-PS has too wide of a ratio though, in my opinion. My PS has the 4.5 or sto stop to stop. I hate it.
