Phantomcf 09-03-2003, 01:51 AM Well, I just bought a 2000 camaro coupe a couple of weeks ago, and I was interested in the whole "T-top conversion idea". I was just wondering if anyone had any input on issues like prices, places to buy kits, and basically if it is a good idea or not. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!
99blackSS 09-03-2003, 02:18 AM Heres a couple of threads on it, you could find more if you want by doing a search.

go there on how to do it i just orderd t tops
dont spend above 500 for it all
try junk yards want to buy etc.
Phantomcf 09-03-2003, 03:15 PM I really have been interested in the whole idea, and I was just wondering if it was all worth the trouble. Thanks a lot for your advice.
99blackSS 09-03-2003, 03:38 PM I didn't do the conversion, but I have t-tops. They are cool to have but they take a couple of minutes to take off and put in the hatchback. IMO its not really worth the hassle of taking them off for drives less then 30 min. But its really cool when they are off, and even when they are on people go "hey are those t-tops?"
Phantomcf 09-04-2003, 01:12 AM cool, thanks for your advice man!!
DomesticViolence 09-06-2003, 10:30 PM i did the conversion. i spent less than $300 for the parts from a '99 camaro. i got everything off of ebay from www.hawksthirdgenparts.com
the only complaint i have is that i did not do it sooner.

jetman624 09-08-2003, 12:45 AM I have had my car for three years. I think I have taken the t-tops off like 4 times. It is a hassel to get them off and store them, and I am always paranoyed leaving my car in a parking lot while they are off. Not worth it IMO.
PonyPounderV6 09-08-2003, 02:33 AM Hey domestic how long have you had the conversion done on your car. Have there been any problems with leaking or what not. Also, has the road noise increased? I notice you live in TX...I am in Arlington, any chance you would consider doing mine for a price of course.

i would help, but i wouldn't be able to do it for you. i work 40+ hours a week and have 16 hours of college to contend with right now.
i have no leaks at all. i did at first, but i managed to fix it by bringing the channel on that corner down some. i've been in floods and no worries for me. road noise increase is hardly noticeable. i thought it would be more than what it is.
and i always have my tops out. it takes about 5 seconds to get them off and on. even with them on though, it's nice being able to lookup and see the sky.
PonyPounderV6 09-08-2003, 11:58 AM Domestic how long did it take to do the conversion. Any price I can offer you to convince you to do the conversion on my car, or at least assist in it. I can't do it anytime soon, but maybe we could plan something out once school settles down a bit for the both of us. Phantom I live in Arlington and would be down with helping you with yours so I can get a feeling for my car. Let me know if you decide to do it.
DomesticViolence 09-08-2003, 09:17 PM i can help you do it, just let me know when. i live in mansfield and work in richland hills. now knowing how to do it, it shouldn't take more than a full day.
i wouldn't see spending more than $500 for everything.
i got lucky on mine...t-top kit for $142.50, weatherstripping for $40, and all the rest for about $50. i just kept checking ebay.
Phantomcf 09-08-2003, 11:28 PM thanks, I will give it some thought and let you know what I decide!!
PonyPounderV6 09-09-2003, 02:48 AM What kinda tools are needed to do this job, considering that some major cutting is envolved? Do you happen to have what is necessary to do this, as well as a garage? I'm basically offering to give you some cash to do alot of the major stuff for me since you've done it before, and to be honest I dont trust myself.
raider5.0 09-09-2003, 06:53 AM hey domestic any way i could take a look at your car i have been wanting to do it to my 95 and i just want to see them in person pics. dont help for me. i live in the HEB area
camaros_4_lfe 09-09-2003, 09:01 AM pony pounder read the site i posted above they will tell you all that you need
DomesticViolence 09-10-2003, 10:39 PM i don't have all the necessary tools. i did a lot of the cutting work at a friend's shop. a dremel and reciprocating saw are essential. i used an air cutter and grinder. you are cutting through steel braces. it's not butter. you also have to remove spot welds which aren't easy to cut either. it is not an easy job, but i think it is one that almost anyone can do.
this eveneing, i enjoyed yet another topless night. :)
raider5.0 09-11-2003, 10:33 PM hey domestic may i see your car i live in the heb area and would like to look at ur work and get a few pointers am really interested in conv. mine
raider5.0 09-11-2003, 10:58 PM what part of richland hills ,street name or area. I know that place well. If i cant where would you be able to meet in arlington or surrounding areas.
deadmeat2004 09-17-2003, 01:53 PM Anybody know where i can take it to get it done??? I live in oklahoma.
JetLag 09-17-2003, 02:24 PM I did the conversion on my car when I just turned 18 almost 2 years ago now. It wasn't that hard to do, and this is comming from a guy who is a lazy bastard. I bought the kit offline from speed automotive and it had everything I needed besides the headliner.
I have my top's off ALL THE TIME. I know certain people never take them off but I am not one of them. I did it myself and never got a quote for someone else to do it but I would imagine that would be an expensive custom job.
firebirdjosh 09-17-2003, 02:33 PM I just wanted to say that T-tops are so great. They take roughly 30 seconds to remove, which is really fun. Looking at the sky is so fun (for passengers, I watch the road). I will always have t-tops in my car if possible.
