I was running a supra last night from a stop. When i launched it i heard/felt a 'snap' from the rear end area and a little loss in power, alogn with a side order of vibration. This car is a pretty popular car with an awsoem reputation, plus his little group talked so much **** about it, i had about 50 people hopeing id win, I was winning so i stayed in it. Afterwards the car was vibrating and heard a clunk on ocassions from the back of the car. I assumed it may be a ring and pinion, i was pissed that i had this $1230 12 bolt for less then a month and it already broke. I had it towed home. When home, i saw the torque arm was almost ripped off the rear end barly hanging from one screw left in. I then removed the torque arm.

Today, i back it out of my garage, it vibrated when idle again and when i backed it out the garage and pulled it back in a few times there was a 'clank' sound. And then to rule out it being a broke ring and pinion i put the car on jack stands. I turned the wheels myself and they turn fine, no noise from the rear end area that way. I then cranked the car and put it in drive and let the tires spin themselves in drive and reverse and it seemed fine, no clank noises. One more thing, when putting the tranny into park from reverse it makes a little screeching sound. If i go from any other gear to park it wont make that sound, just reverse to park which is wierd becaus it has to go through reverse before it hits park from any other gear.

from the sound of it, does it sound like just the torque arm? (hopefully)

DAMN Trey, that sucks! I bet it hooked good tho! Anywho, I wouldn't think you messed up the rear "yet". I wouldn't drive the car at all until you get it fixed. The torque arm is what keeps our rear from pivoting backwards and forwards, so without it, the entire rearend has a twist now. I'd presume when you put it in reverse, it ries to twist it the other way, and thats why you hear a noise. Time for a new TA. I know the MAC torque arm moves the mounting point from the trans tail to the frame. Not sure if thats necessary at your e.t. level or not.

Anywho, who'd you race? I'd presume it was Phong. You beat him? Yeah right! LOL J/K. I bet everyone out there was pissed! LOL You spray out the hole? Was Phong on slicks or e.t.s or radials? I can't believed I missed it all! Anywho, congrats on the win, I hope your cars ok!

P.S. If my description of the torque arms job is incorrect, I assuume no responsibility, LOL. That is what I was told by people. If it is wrong, someone please correct me!

if it's a moser then what probably happened is that your tq arm bolts backed out and your stock tq arm got mangled. We've broken two tq arms and never damaged anything else in the process. Now it got a serious dose of loctite and frequent retorqueings. It is very possible that you have screwed up your driveshaft from driving it with a ridiculous pinion angle.

Yea it was phong... I think from a roll it would have been a different ball game, but from a stop, and the way i lucked up and hooked he wasent going to reel me in reguardless by the 1/4th anyway.

For the record it went like this.

We went from a dead stop, i jumped like 2 cars on him and still pulling out the hole, i was very suprised i got him that bad. Dureing launch i heard a snap i didnt know what it was but i stayed on it and loosness from the rear. at about 67-80, i begin noticied the vibration and some unnatural movements moving around back there so i let off the nitrous and went half throttle seeign if i could babey it to the 1/4 as much as i could becaus we had another 50 or so yards to go, i was looking back and phong was commign fast, so i got back o it, nitrous and all and it slowed his pace down, then i think he just shut down, he said missed a gear then, which may have been why he let out.
